Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek, left, and Chief Deputy Randy Noviskie stand with about 2,000 marijuana plants from a farm at 14650 state Highway 95 North.

LA GRANGE - The Fayette County Sheriff's Office busted a marijuana farm Sunday evening, seizing an estimated $3 million worth of plants and packaged drugs.

After receiving a tip, the sheriff's Narcotics Unit went to 14650 state Highway 95 North, where they found about 2,000 mature marijuana plants, according to a press release.

Deputies also found packaged marijuana ready for transportation on the 55-acre property located just south of the Bastrop County line.

A 39-year-old Houston man was detained for questioning but later released, said Lt. David Beyer.

The sheriff's office tracked the property to a person in Houston, who Beyer said probably had other people working the land. They are looking into seizing the property, Beyer said.

The marijuana farm was found on a dead-end road and had only a "shack" on the property. Neighbors lived about half a mile from the farm, Beyer said.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Lower Colorado River Authority, Fayette County Constables Office and Muldoon Fire Department assisted in the "huge operation," devoting about four hours to removing the marijuana, Beyer said.
