April Art Corner: Spring show on display
By Bill Bauer
Spring is in the air and we are proud to invite you to the Victoria Art League Spring Art Show that will be displayed at the Art League until Friday.
Cash prizes and ribbons were awarded in the adult and youth divisions and the children's' art is a treat for everyone.
After Friday, the adult paintings will be moved to the Welder Center for viewing there until April 18.
There is so much variety and interesting artwork for you to enjoy. If you come to the Art League before Friday, you can vote for the People's Choice winners in the youth and adult divisions.
The Art League is open from 1-5 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday.
March was a very interesting month for me. I took two of the classes I told you about in my last Art Corner. Mark Keathley taught a great oil painting class in which I participated. He is a great teacher and artist. The next week, my wife Susan and I took a wood carving class with Lem Smith. It was such fun and I learned so much from both classes.
Jim Feig also taught an advanced digital photography class and Sonny Timme continued his classes on Wednesdays. Everyone in these classes agreed that we need to have them back again.
Keep tuned in to this column and I will keep you informed about these and other opportunities in the future.
As a matter of fact, I will tell you what's coming up in April right now. A stained glass class will be taught by Sally Pryor starting Saturday. She gave a very interesting demonstration and talk at our last monthly meeting.
Paul Padilla will demonstrate welded sculpture at our next meeting on Sunday. Come join us from 2 to 4 p.m. to watch Paul show us how he creates sculpture from old scrap metal objects.
Jim Feig will start another beginning photography class on Tuesdays in April from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Sonny will continue his classes in various media from 1 to 4 p.m. or 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Michelle Evans will be starting up children's classes in June.
We need to find out if there is some interest in a beginner's watercolor class or a multimedia collage and fabric design class. If you have any interest in any of these classes, just call the Victoria Art League from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at 361-572-0825.
I attended the two classes last month and the Monday paint-in a couple of Mondays. I had a great time and created something I was proud of in each one and you can too.
Don't forget to come see the Spring Show through Friday at the Art League and then at the Welder Center until the April 18.
Y'all come see us!
