Dirt should start being turned Tuesday on construction of the Victoria Caterpillar plant.
Workers with Kelchner Excavating were on site at Lone Tree Business Park on Monday prepping for work to begin.
Kelchner Excavating is headquartered in Springboro, Ohio.
Clayco Construction Company of St. Louis, Mo. is the contractor to build the North American hydraulic excavator plant, according to a ClayCo Construction company news release dated March 28. It is also working on construction projects for Caterpillar in Clayton, Ohio and in Winston-Salem, N.C., according to the business website Bloomberg.com.
About 300 construction jobs could be created during the project.
The single-story facility will be constructed using a tilt-up concrete wall system and will include a central chilled water plant, water reclaim system, assembly conveyors, industrial paint lines, and an extensive overhead crane system.
The 600,000-square-foot Victoria plant is scheduled to begin production in mid-2012 and is expected to create about 500 jobs.
"We are excited to expand our relationship with Caterpillar and we look forward to working closely with the city of Victoria to make this project a great success for all key stakeholders," said Anthony Johnson, project executive at Clayco in the news release.
It will be located in the 320-acre Lone Tree Business Park.
