University of Houston-Victoria coach Terry Puhl is looking forward to watching Justin Cudd pitch again.
Cudd has been sidelined with a sore arm since pitching against Sterling College on March 19.
But Cudd will be back on the mound when the Jaguars (23-21) face Texas A&M-Kingsville (19-16) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Riverside Stadium.
"Justin Cudd is going to be so important to us next year," Puhl said. "We've got to get him back in the rotation."
Puhl has been extremely cautious with Cudd, but is anxious to see how the freshman from Katy fares against the Javelinas.
"He's been throwing in the bullpen and says he feels great," Puhl said. "You're never sure what's going to happen after such a long layoff."
UHV and NCAA Division II A&M-Kingsville have played three times this season, and the Javelinas have won two.
The teams split a pair of games in Kingsville, and the Javelinas beat the Jaguars at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi. All three games were played in February.
"It seems like we've never played well against them," Puhl said. "But it has made our team so much better. You want to play the best teams you possibly can."
The Javelinas are no stranger to Riverside Stadium.
A&M-Kingsville head coach Jason Gonzales played high school baseball at Cuero.
The Javelinas roster includes Jeremy Flores, Adrian Williams and Trent Wagner from Memorial, Denver Diefenbach from St. Joseph, Keith Kieschnick from Bay City, and Dallas Ponder from Flatonia.
After playing UHV, A&M-Kingsville will play a three-game Lone Star Conference series against Incarnate Word in San Antonio this weekend.
The Jaguars will travel to Fort Worth to play Texas Wesleyan in a single game Saturday and a doubleheader Sunday.
"The playoffs are coming up so I'm going after it," Puhl said. "Everyone one of out lineups will be the one that gives us the best chance to win."
