The Victoria Independent School District Education Foundation is the recipient of a Texas Pioneer Foundation Award for the "Most Innovative Fundraiser." The award, which highlights a single fundraiser which is unique from all other events, was presented at the Pioneer Foundation's second annual conference in San Marcos on April 8.
The VISD Education Foundation received a limestone-carved star plaque and a $1,000 cash prize.
The winning fundraiser was a grand opening concert for the Victoria Fine Arts Center held in February, and included a pre-event reception for sponsors catered by VISD culinary students, a concert that showcased more than 300 performers from Victoria East and West High Schools and the University of Texas Wind Ensemble, and a distinguished alumni awards presentation. Nearly 1,200 attended the first-time event.
Approximately eight nominations were received from education foundations in Texas. The VISD Education Foundation nomination included an event summary, pictures, marketing materials and newspaper clippings from the Victoria Advocate which covered the event.
The VISD Education Foundation is a charitable, nonprofit organization benefiting Victoria public school classrooms and students.
