Texas AgriLife Extension Service has a mission to provide non-biased, research-based educational information to the public. With that in mind, Extension committeemen have been busy making contacts and securing resources for upcoming programs.

Below are two field days scheduled for April and May that will help you more effectively manage resources and increase net return:

A Beef Cattle Spring Field Day is planned from 3 to 6 p.m. April 26 at Garcitas Ranch north of Victoria. Here's a program you won't want to miss. The field day will highlight developing replacement heifers, raising versus purchasing heifers and low stress cattle handling techniques. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about and evaluate Victoria Braford cattle, a commercial cross-bred of three-fourths Hereford and one-fourth Brahman. Speakers will include Bob McCan, McFaddin Enterprises, Ltd.; Clay Neel, Welder Heirs Cattle Company Ranch Manager; and Joe Paschal, Extension livestock specialist.

The field day will be outdoors so dress accordingly. If you have a chair you'd like to bring, feel free to do so. Please call the Victoria County Extension office at 361-575-4581 by April 21 to sign up. One hour of general CEU and one BQA credit will be offered.

Refreshments will be provided. There will be a $10 registration fee for this program.

May 26, a Pond Management Field Day is scheduled at Jerry and Rhonda Leita's place in Inez. The program will be from 9 a.m. to noon. Peter Woods, Extension fisheries specialist will discuss site selection and construction, pond fertilization, stocking, aquatic weed management and pond renovation. Peter will have a seining demonstration and discuss proper management practices based on the findings. As an added highlight with time permitting, John Leita will discuss catfish farming and provide a tour of his operation. Attendees are asked to bring along samples of aquatic weeds for identification and control recommendations.

Don't forget to bring your lawn chair. Refreshments will be provided.

Attendees will receive two hours of CEUs (1 IPM, 1 general) for participating in the program. Please call the Extension office by May 20 to sign up. There will be a $15 registration fee for this program.

For more information or a map to the above mentioned activities, please contact the Extension office at 361-575-4581.
