Ballots set for May 14 election

The ballots are set for the May 14 municipal and school elections.
Many entities have canceled the elections because only one person filed for that race.
Early voting is May 2-10.
On Election Day, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
In Victoria County, the Victoria school district has the only contested races.
Incumbent L. J. (Lou) Svetlik is being challenged by Garland (Butch) Smith for District 3.
Kevin VanHook is being challenged by Jake Gonzalo Flores for the District 1 unexpired term.
Incumbent District 5 member Tami Keeling was unopposed and declared elected.

Port Lavaca City Council
District 1, Floyd Felder, incumbent; District 3, Lee Rivera, incumbent, both of Port Lavaca. Both are unopposed, the council canceled the election and declared them elected.
Calhoun County school board
District 1, Jesse Briseno, incumbent; District 2, Joe Ortiz, incumbent; District 6, Janie Delgado, incumbent. All unopposed, the school board canceled the election and declared them elected.
Point Comfort City Council
Three to be elected. Troy Baxter, 49, incumbent; Linda Brush, 65, incumbent; Mitchal McBride, 50, Point Comfort; Johnny Warren, 54, Point Comfort.
Seadrift City Council
Three to be elected. Wesley Hunt, 49, incumbent; Jack LaBarge, 65; Joe Beaver Jr., 54; Johnny Mickolas, 43, incumbent.
Cuero City Council
District 1 - John Fuqua, 63, Cuero, sales, incumbent.
District 4 - Roy Johnson, 72, Cuero, retired, incumbent.
At-Large, two to be elected - Tony Allen, 66, Cuero, retired, incumbent; Bill Matthys , 65, Cuero, retired, incumbent; Chris Hernandez, 39, Cuero, peace officer

District 3 - Polly Laging, 41, Cuero, vice-president oilfield company. Incumbent Carlyle Stakes did not seek re-election.
District 4 - Pat Koranek, 66, Cuero, retired postal worker, incumbent; Jeff Smith, 35, Cuero, sales representative
Yoakum City Council
Place 1 - Tim Faulkner, 62, Yoakum, small business owner; Place 2 - Tim McCoy, 40, Yoakum, accounting manager; Place 3 - Annie Rodriguez, 63, Yoakum, insurance sales. All are incumbent and unopposed, city council declared them elected and canceled election.
Yoakum school board
At-Large, three to be elected - Gary Colman, 57, Yoakum, rancher; Darlene Renken, 56, Yoakum, banker; John Braden, 53, Yoakum, dentist. All are incumbents and unopposed, school board declared them elected and canceled election.
