A spill occurred at Dow Seadrift on Tuesday afternoon creating a dust cloud and sending three people to the hospital.
Trish Ritthaler, the community relations manager for Dow Seadrift, said it is unknown what caused the spill. The incident occurred when a sand-like silica product was being unloaded.
Ritthaler said they do not know what type of silica was spilled or how much of it was spilled.
According to the Dow website, Dow Seadrift produces different types of plastics and chemicals. Silica is commonly used to make plastic.
Three people went to the hospital to be examined, but there were no reported injuries.
A news release issued by Ritthaler stated that there were no environmental impacts or effects to the community.
The incident is under investigation.

Sounds like human error to me. Dow is like the other big companies. It takes some time for information to flow from their mouths. They don't know what they are doing at this point. They need more time to investigate the accident to find out what happened. I just hope no one got hurt in this accident. Good luck to those involved.
