Jaycees clothing drive for homeless

OPPORTUNITIESSAVE THE DATE

The second annual Victoria Jaycees Benefit Car & Bike Show and Carnival will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 1 at the Victoria Jaycees Hall, 2905 E. North St.

Car and bike registration will be from 9 to 11 a.m. with judging at noon. A chicken fried steak meal, catered by Werner's Restaurant of Shiner, will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pre-sale meal tickets are $7. Carnival games for the children will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A magic show will be at 2 p.m. Other activities include a silent auction, cake walk, blood drive, concession stand and Kid ID program. Proceeds benefit Kim Rickman, known as Ziggy the Clown.

April 27 - Advance wristband distribution for Victoria County Relay for Life, 3 to 5 p.m., American Cancer Society Office, 4401 Lilac Lane. Wristbands are needed for entry into Coleto Creek Park for the April 29 event. 361-578-2849.

April 30 - "Boot Scootin' Competition," 6 to 11 p.m., dance contest to benefit Yorktown and Nordheim nonprofit groups, Gruenau Hall. 361-564-3232.

VICTORIA JAYCEES

The Victoria Jaycees are holding a clothing and shoe drive for the homeless.

Clean items of clothing or shoes left over from garage sales, from spring cleaning or as a result of children outgrowing them will be accepted.

Clothing may be dropped off at National Hearing Centers, 1909 E. Red River St., and Townsquare Media (KIXS 108, Q92 Jack FM, 106.9 The Rock), 107 North Star Drive.

Items also may be dropped off at the Jaycees Hall, 2905 E. North St., between the softball fields and the community center, from 2 to 4 p.m. April 30, May 14 and 28, June 11 and 25 and July 9 and 23.

The clothing will be distributed at Christ's Kitchen, 611 E. Warren St., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 10.
