Sara Hounsell, of Victoria, reported that several people rescued a kitten that was trapped in the storm drain Wednesday night outside the 77901/Lauren Bade Wine Room and Gift Shop in downtown Victoria, right before the road crew came through to tear up Main Street. Hounsell described the rescue: "Elena Ardila bought a trap from Academy and baited it with cat food. JJ Hernandez lifted off the storm grate and lowered the trap down. Tami Keeling and I did our civic duty by listening intently for the trap to close as we continued to sip wine at our lovely patio table. After the cat food didn't work, we raised the trap and I added some smoky cheddar and crackers from our cheese tray, which totally did the trick. Who doesn't love cheese?" The kitten will have a home in Lauren Bade's shop, and she has been named Smoky, after the cheese.
