Train strikes truck; crossing arms planned at intersection.
Victoria Police senior patrol officer Herschel Buck questions truck driver Oscar Hernandez about the collision that forced the closure of a portion of John Stockbauer Drive. "I looked this way, and when I looked the other, the train was already on me," said Hernandez.

For the second time in less than four months, a Kansas City Southern train hit a truck crossing the tracks on John Stockbauer Drive, near Lone Tree Road.
No one was injured in either collision.
About 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, a train slammed into a tractor-trailer crossing the tracks between Houston Highway and Lone Tree Road.
The collision closed down a portion of John Stockbauer Drive for about two hours.
The train, driven by engineer Gerardo Rendon, struck the rear of the trailer, driven by Oscar Hernandez, 42, of San Antonio, who was transporting assorted produce to PFG Food Service.
Hernandez was cited for failure to yield at close proximity, said Victoria Police senior patrol officer Herschel Buck.
"All this because I got lost," Hernandez said, after receiving notice of the citation.
Inspectors for KCS and for Union Pacific, which oversees the tracks, investigated the safety of the train and tracks before re-opening the road to the public.
A similar accident at the railroad crossing occurred in April. A KCS train collided with a 1996 Chevrolet S10, driven by Martin Peralta, 45, of Victoria.
The rail crossing has no railroad gates, but Texas Department of Transportation Area Engineer Randy Bena said a railroad crossing flashing signal with arms that come down is scheduled to be constructed there sometime this year.
In April, the Advocate reported railroad crossings at Convent Street, Murray Street, Odem Street and Pleasant Green Drive will also receive gates through the 2011 Federal Signal Program. The program receives funding through the Federal Highway Administration.

Bigguy the article clearly states the driver was cited for the accident.
August 4, 2011 at 10:48 a.m.It is no one's fault but the truck driver, give him a ticket. In the state of Texas it is a law that everyone has to stop and yield the right of way to a train, whether there is a sign or crossing gate there or not. I used to work on the railroad and saw accidents almost on a daily basis, the drivers tried to outrun us so they would not have to sit and wait for the train to pass. They just don't consider what a train can do to them and their cars, and their lives mean absolutely nothing to them. YOU Can't Win the fight between you and and a train.
August 4, 2011 at 8:33 a.m.This screams of operator error!
August 4, 2011 at 6:08 a.m.Just like crossing the road, look both ways. Not that hard. If something is coming bigger than you, let it pass then cross. LMAO
August 3, 2011 at 11:50 p.m.Railroad arms or not idiots will still get hit.
August 3, 2011 at 7:51 p.m.I cross those tracks 4 times a day. Watch out.
Folks will run over you when you slow down to look, or fly around you and give you one of those looks.
Can't tell you how many times like yesterday a couple guys in a shiny new black pickup about jumped in my trunk.
This morning another dark colored pickup crossed those tracks, running at least 50 if not 65.
She was flying and did NOT have flashers on.
August 3, 2011 at 6:02 p.m.She never slowed down.
I agree that the driver should have gotten a ticket but when is someone going to wake up and realize how dangerous that train track crossing is on that section of John Stockbauer. It was just a couple months ago when someone else was hit by the train. Due to the oilfield boom that part of John Stockbauer is being traveled more than ever. Someone needs to wise up and put bars and lights at that crossing. Even the intersection of Lone Tree and John Stockbauer down the road is dangerous. I almost t-boned somebody yesterday and a couple years back at that intersection because people stop at the stop sign and then continue on forgetting to yield to the motorist traveling on John Stockbauer . My co-worker was involved in an accident last month at that intersection. Due to the person on Lone Tree not yielding to her who was traveling on John Stockbauer. Either they need to install a light or make it a 4-way stop. If anything the traffic is going to get worse once Catapillar opens.
August 3, 2011 at 12:40 p.m.ViCad staff. Why is the video upside down?

August 3, 2011 at 11:31 a.m.That was funny as _ _ _ _.
Is that picture from the driver of the truck's view after the wreck? hahahaha
August 3, 2011 at 11:19 a.m.About the same as someone walking right out in front of a 3,000 lb car in the HEB parking lot without looking - you can always assume that the other guy is going to watch out for you - play chicken and sometimes you don't make it.
August 3, 2011 at 10:24 a.m.Another one of those darn trains just jumped out right in front of a vehicle.
