The Orsak family lost their home to a fire on July 30.
Aaron and Christy Orsak and their two children Victoria, 14, Jacob, 13 did not have home insurance, so they are beginning house shopping from scratch.
Family friend Carol Blair, 36, of Waco, said she felt powerless to help because she lives four hours away.
"We've known each other since we were 8 years old," said Blair. "Their family means everything to me. She's practically my sister."
Blair heard about the fire when her mother called her in the middle of the night to inform her the house was on fire.
"I don't think I slept that night at all," Blair said.
At 4 that morning, Blair began the plans for a fundraiser spaghetti dinner that will be at the Downtown Bar and Grill on Aug. 14. Blair said because many childhood friends relocated after high school, the downtown bar, which they refer to as the "Saint Elmo Fire Bar" is where the friends meet to hang out when they come to town.
A $10 donation at the door will cover the spaghetti dinner and proceeds will go toward helping the family.
"We have four bands booked to play and we will have a silent auction," Blair said.
Blair said the Red Cross has also been helpful in the recovery process.
"The Red Cross put the family up in a hotel from Saturday morning through Tuesday and gave them a debit card so they could buy food and clothes," Blair said.
Blair said the Red Cross has also helped process calls from potential donors.
