THE RESPONSE RECAP
WHERE: Reliant Stadium in Houston
WHEN: Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
DIGNITARIES ATTENDED: Gov. Rick Perry of Texas and Gov. Sam Brownback of Kansas addressed the attendants and led them in prayer.
VIDEO MESSAGE: Gov. Rick Scott of Florida sent a video message. The event was broadcasted to more than 1,100 churches across the country.
For the past 30 days, Wanda Ulrey prepared for the day of prayer in Houston on Saturday by participating in a guided prayer focus sent out by The Response. Ulrey also set aside one meal on Sunday during that month to fast and pray.
"God had me look at things in my heart that are not right, and I ask for his grace and forgiveness," Ulrey said.
Saturday morning, 65-year-old Ulrey and six other members of Victory Christian Life Center were among dozens from Victoria who converged at Reliant Stadium in Houston for The Response. They joined thousands across the country who participated in the daylong event filled with prayer and fasting.
"I believed it would be a powerful event. I just wanted to be there to experience it," Ulrey said.
Ulrey said the event is about returning to God.
"It is about returning to him and bringing that passion for him back," Ulrey said. She said people often say they are Christians, but they don't vote or let Christ affect the way they live their lives.
"We've not sought the Lord with all our heart," Ulrey said. "It's not about us. It's about believers coming together in unity. When two agree according to his word, he hears."
Throughout the day, Ulrey fasted until supper.
"The fasting is taking that time of going to get a meal and instead staying and devoting that time to prayer," Ulrey said.
Another member of Victory Christian Life Center, 25-year-old Bonnie Freeman, said she believes prayer will fix national problems.
"I'm very interested in what's going on in the nation because we are in crisis," said Freeman, of Victoria. "I believe if we humble ourselves and pray, God will fix our problems."
Freeman said while she prayed for the national financial crisis, her heart is particularly burdened for the youth of America.
"I feel like our morals and our values in our country have been degraded and our youth are affected by this," Freeman said. "I have a heart to pray for our youth to be wise and make wise choices."
Ulrey's prayers focused on people hurting in her community and across the nation.
"I was in the grocery store the other day and when I saw the prices, I started crying. Our nation is hurting," Ulrey said.
Ulrey said prayer is something practical she can do to help the country.
"I feel, as a citizen, this is one thing I can do for our nation," Ulrey said. "I vote, I call and write to our representatives, but we need God. I'm very grateful our governor believes that."
Ulrey also prayed for America to return to the roots it was founded on, which she believes were based on biblical principles.
"Our politicians and judges are not abiding by the Constitution and only God can restore that, in my opinion," Ulrey said.
She said she also prayed for the drought and other specific issues confronting Texas and the nation.
"In 2 Chronicles 7:14 it talks about a time when there was a drought and other things going on," Ulrey said. "God says 'if my people will humble themselves and seek my face, I will hear from heaven and heal their land.'"
Ulrey believes that is what they are doing at The Response.
"It takes us as individuals repenting and changing our individual choices," Ulrey said. "I believe as we each recognize the evil in ourselves, if everyone in our nation would do that, it would bring healing."
Deloris Ruby, 62, also a member of Victory Christian Life Center, said she has prayed for Texas and the nation in the past, which is why she wanted to participate in this event.
Ruby also read 2 Chronicles 7 on Saturday morning before she left with the group at 7:30 a.m. She said in the context of that chapter, the nation of Israel was in crisis.
Ruby said she has prayed for Texas and the nation in the past, which is why she wanted to participate in this event.
"I am looking for a sign to show that God has heard our cry," Ruby said. "I am praying rain will come as a sign of God healing our nation in many other areas in response to our prayers today."
Pastors, worship leaders and other Christian leaders, including Dr. James and Shirley Dobson, of Colorado, also led the group at the stadium in worship, Bible reading and prayer for specific issues.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback both addressed the attendants and led them in prayer. Florida Gov. Rick Scott sent a video message, which was broadcast at The Response.
"For the governor of the state to call for a day of prayer and fasting, to me that is powerful," Ulrey said. "This will be a history-making day."
She was pleased by Perry's comments and how he quoted Scripture and prayed in the name of Jesus Christ.
"He prayed for the needs of our nation and for our leaders and our families, acknowledging Jesus as Lord," she said.
"That is powerful because today is about the church of the Lord Jesus Christ standing up and crying out for his mercy."

The serpent man is seperate from the tree. The up right creature was sucessfull in seducing the woman Eve into receiving the knowledge that lucifer wanted her to recieve. In another words satan used the up right man type of creature (before he was cursed into a snake) to have intercourse with Eve.
It would be a good idea to read the story again in Genisis.
I will put enmity between the & the woman & thy seed & her seed. The serpant man had a seed that could mingle with the woman. This also speaks of the future off spring of Eves & serpants children & Adam & Eves children.
Eve had twins but the first born was CAIN. In chapter 5 seth is declared Adams son not Cain. Also Luke Chapter 3 CAIN IS NOT MENTIONED AS BEING THE SON OF ADAM. WHY? Because Cain was the serpents seed not ADAMS son.
Thanks Gary White
August 10, 2011 at 10:19 p.m.Ah so you must be right then - a serpent man disguised as a tree tempted a woman which invoked gods wrath and banished all from a very nice garden.
How could taking that literally be deemed ridiculous?
I think you are a mythist, Gary - you don't give equal creedence to other myths. Why not take Greek or Egyptian myths so literally?
August 10, 2011 at 9:46 p.m.Kyle
Myth's can weave a beautiful story, but they're not meant to be taken literally, Gary.
Thats very close to what the serpant man told Eve, she bought into it.
But this last days Bride of Christ can not be deceived like Eve was.
August 10, 2011 at 8:49 p.m.The Harbinger of Doom said: "Eve never ate an apple. Adam & Eve were supposed to only eat of the tree of Life which was Christ. The tree of the knowledge of good & evil was lucifer. This tree Eve partook of, its not a tree with bark & leaves but it was a being who thought they had a better idea than the Lords."
Silly God shouldn't have created the light bringer then. No light bringer = no "tree"= no access to "forbidden" knowledge = just an endless sleepy sheep-like existence for mankind.
Myth's can weave a beautiful story, but they're not meant to be taken literally, Gary.

Eve never ate an apple. Adam & Eve were supposed to only eat of the tree of Life which was Christ. The tree of the knowledge of good & evil was lucifer. This tree Eve partook of, its not a tree with bark & leaves but it was a being who thought they had a better idea than the Lords.
Mr Reynolds is it not true that America heavily supported Iraq against Iran? Why then do you suppose Iran feels this tremendous need to anialate Israel. Iraq being Irans great enemy you would think Iran would love the U.S.
The simple truth is that its the sacred (so called) duty of most all Arabs & Musilems to stop there fighting long enough to murder the JEWS when Allah gives them the chance.
As for the U.S. we will not rest until we have control over every
nation, ISRAEL included. we are demanding team players & those who dont bow like its mentioned in the book of Revelations
are labeled as blockages to peace & are dealt with accordingly.
What we see going on on the global seen will go on with in our borders soon. True Christians & others will be viewed as obstacles to peace.
The Chinese were just here for negotiations, one of there top demands was that there sovereignty be respected. WHY would China have to even think like that? Because we have demonstrated a pattern control, manipulation, etc.
We aren't buying friends we are buying slaves.
Israel has one true friend & HIS Name is Jesus. And there will be no peace until the Prince of Peace returns. God Bless America & the true old fashion Americans that still trust & believe in God.
Thanks GW

August 9, 2011 at 10:32 p.m.I appreciate that you consider my statement having some depth. Let talk about Iran, if we (as in the USA) hadn’t invaded Iraq, there wouldn’t be an Iranian/Israeli problem. We allow fear and hate to govern so strongly that faith, leadership, and peacemaking were taken a back seat. If it the same fear and hate that governs over this nations since the 60’s and 70’s. It took vision and God given wisdom to climb and explore deepness of space and that of the sea to better mankind, but we do not have that vision because of fear, hate, and anger. Do I think God has a hand in the affairs in America? Yes I do. We are a nation that doesn’t trust one other or even like one other. The name calling and catcalls on this site and on independent local blogs is proof of this. Why because we do not appreciate one’s self , one’s family, self-respect, honor and yes…faith. We are being shown the errors of our ways because we refuse to use the gifts from our Creator to feed the poor, med the broken, heal the sick, and take care of the Earth. There is more money in political campaigns/coffers than there are to feed or assist someone. There are solutions to fight this drought although I refer to call it a “local nuclear blast”, if pool resources together public or private we could lessen the problem. I got more to say, but I think I am going off topic here.
Rollinstone.
That is mighty Christian of you to name call someone.
August 9, 2011 at 10:02 p.m.So some chick ate an apple and a god has gone all sulky on America. Thanks for your contribution, Gary.
August 9, 2011 at 9:22 p.m.Dear Mr Williams
Wow you are deep, so many good points & concerns I scarcly know where to start. And dont know that I could do them justice.
As a rule I dont dwell much in the world of politics, The world I dwell is usually spiritual & invisble. Both Republican & Dems are normaly roten. I cast my vote on Jesus Christ long ago so I know he cant lose.
They that live by the sword shall perish by the sword.
The nervouseness & fear you speak of is so prevalent today because the Bible said it would be so in the last days. WHY? because we as a nation have turned down our day of Grace.
At one time we could count on Gods help to defeat our enemies, it wasnt necsary to have the lattest & greatest in weaponery.
Now due to our own chosing we are left to shift for ourselves. Thats one reason why we have made so many advancements in meds, science & WAR FARE. We have to because we decided long ago to pilot our own ship.
Now all these advancements arent all bad. We are know eating off that tree that was offered to Eve In the begining.
SHE PERTOOK of the tree of KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD & evil, see it wasnt all bad but it was not Gods perfect will for her & us to do it.
Now back to the carnal level of Iran. If Canada promised to use its automic bombs on us as soon as it can get them would you be in favor of attacking them first so that they cant make good on there threats??
God Bless GW
August 9, 2011 at 8:18 p.m.Gary, I was referring to Obuma.....sorry for the confusion.
August 9, 2011 at 11:57 a.m.I am thankful to live in a country where I can go to Reliant Stadium and worhsip and pray to God. Also that each person can express their opinion here in the comments.

Thank you.
August 9, 2011 at 12:32 a.m.Here is another example of Fascism. The “Geanie Morrison Abortion bill “is that of fascism and of neo-feudalism. I do not care if you are pro-life or not, but having the government probing women is unconstitutional and immoral. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Yes local conservatives I am still bashing the leadership and legislative career of our State Rep. Geanie Morrison (R-Victoria). (http://www.victoriaadvocate.com/weblo... ) & (http://www.victoriaadvocate.com/news/... ).
August 9, 2011 at 12:30 a.m.Gary.
Let me elaborate my past statement. Who was the one favored war with Iraq? Who was one of those who advocate Israel to strike Iran since 2006? He stood alongside of Governor Goodhair Perry. You don’t know? He is the pastor of Cornerstone Church, John Hagee. And what about the Southern Baptist leader Richard Land. There is your answer. Want proof?
1) http://www.victoriaadvocate.com/weblo... Even you reply to this blog.
2) Land Letter……… (http://erlc.com/article/the-so-called... )
Mr. Williams
August 9, 2011 at 12:15 a.m.Rollinstone.
In your world it is that. But me, I have faith, not fear. This is the problem with you conservatives like Matt Ocker for example, yall show more fear than faith, more anger than love.
August 8, 2011 at 11:28 p.m.Hope and Change (2008)-------> Yes He DID (2012???) ---------- > Discovering that Common Faith (2014)------ > American Renewal -------------- > A Second Era of Good Feelings (2020).
The problem is that yall, namely the babyboomer generation lack vision.
The end of the world is nigh!

I am very positive that we are no longer a democracy since the days of JFK. I belive that full tyrany will manifest in the near future. That being said how can you be so sure that Rick Perrys movement will usher in the New World order?
Tahnks Gary W
August 8, 2011 at 9:58 p.m.Hope and Change ---> Fundamental Transformation ---> Socialism ---> New World Order ---> Tyranny?? ---> Yes He Can!!!!
August 8, 2011 at 9:04 p.m.Dear Writein
Would you mind elaborating on the facsisim coment & explain to me what the beravity coment is saying to.
Thanks GW
August 8, 2011 at 9:04 p.m.Writein - you are SPOT ON, sir.
Sometimes brevity is indeed the better part of wit.
August 8, 2011 at 8:40 p.m.Facsism will not come to America with an invading force, but with golden cross wrap in a flag.
Rick Perry's chruch service is nothing more than a politcal ploy to start his Presidential race.
August 8, 2011 at 7:47 p.m.The problem in Washington isn't prayer or lack of prayer it is greed.
August 7, 2011 at 9:10 p.m.Which is free will. God gave us that, right?
I think that the fact this was held on a Saturday kept crowds down. Most people don't mind going to church on Sunday but when you have Wednesday bible studies, Saturday weddings, then church on Sunday for most people that is too much church.
August 7, 2011 at 9:06 p.m.June 1, 1774 - the day that the Boston Port Act went into effect closing the port to commerce as punishment for the “Tea Party” - was designated as a “Day of fasting, humiliation, and prayer, devoutly to implore the divine interposition for averting the calamity, which threatens destruction of our civil rights, and the evils of civil war….”
Such notables as Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry and Richard Henry Lee endorsed this resolution for the day of prayer.
August 7, 2011 at 8:44 p.m.Intolerant of intolerance? Guilty as charged your Honor.
August 7, 2011 at 6:56 p.m.digalitldper,
Goodness, I hope I spelled that right. It's sad to say that there is not a man, woman, or child alive that is not an intolerant bigot on at least one subject. It's human nature.
August 7, 2011 at 6:48 p.m.Good honest christians were once again duped by the false prophets who sponsored this event including the governor. A day of prayer was the pretense used for the sponors of this event to endorse Rick Perry as a presidential candidate. Rick Perry was praying for votes. God Bless Rick Perry and the American Family Association for sponsoring this great lie!!
August 7, 2011 at 6:31 p.m.Interesting to note that a Houston Texans game at the same stadium can draw 70,000+
I wonder if this fact helps explain why we have the situation that we do in our country?
So, for those types of Christians I would ask that you continue to pray for our moral salvation, because your God seems to be answering those requests by giving freedom and equality to more and more of the oppressed and disenfranchised in this country.
Rejoice while you have your apparent victories over our Lord. They thought the same thing when He was crucified.
In the end we will see that your accomplishments that you have so striven for are just the gathering of the tares. A law with no penalty is just a suggestion, There are penalties to Gods laws.
Think about it please Gary W
August 7, 2011 at 5:10 p.m.True Kyle, but the Arabic version did not contain article 11, only the English version.
All that aside, the Treaty of Tripoli was nothing more than a agreement for America to pay extortion so Americas ships would not be seized. The treaty was violated in 1801 by the Barbary states that has signed it anyway.
A American ship was seized, its crew sold into slavery and cargo seized, and the Peshar demanded a higher payment than the treaty outlined.
IMO, that is exactly why American will no longer negotiate with terrorist, hijackers, kidnappers or extortionists.
A modern day version of the reason why the Treaty of Tripoli was signed can be found in Somalia, but this time no treaty will be signed.
August 7, 2011 at 4:57 p.m.It should be noted that Congress ratified the Tripoli treaty with that precise wording unanimously - a feat rarely repeated.
August 7, 2011 at 4:43 p.m.I seem to remember during prior research on the treaty with Tripoli, that revealed that the original treaty was rejected by the Barbary Pirates, you know, the reason the treaty was written in the first place, shores of Tripoli in the Marine song ect., and that the "not founded on Christian principles" had to be added for the treaty to be signed by the pirates.
Just saying, it was a negotiating point that was insisted upon by one party of the treaty, the pirates or people of what is now Libya, and was simple a wording concession made by America to have the treaty signed, nothing more nothing less. Whether it was true or not, it was only a small concession made to protect shipping.
August 7, 2011 at 4:04 p.m.Elmer Gantry for President!
August 7, 2011 at 3:31 p.m.MaskedBandit writes: "The 1796 Treaty with Tripoli states that the United States was "not in any sense founded on the Christian religion".
Actually it states the Government of the US wasn't founded on the Christian religion, and in that strict sense is absolutely accurate. The argument you're trying to make is about Christian principle, I believe, and in that sense I would disagree.
The reason the Founders were so adamant about religion as applied to govt was to differentiate America from the ecclesiastical governments of Europe - the *establishment by government*, i.e. state-mandated, of any particular religion was guarded against for a reason. They felt it was an abomination of Christian principle & had plenty of good reason for doing so, as those govt.'s had blocked anyone of another Christian religion from attaining positions of influence in both govt & society. That sort of political positioning was in large part why so many migrated to America to begin with.
There were multiple treaties with the Muslims, who had declared war on all Christian nations including America b/c of historical conflict w/the Europeans. The Tripoli treaty's wording was an attempt to differentiate Amerca from those countries, nothing else. Washington, btw, never even saw it.
"the founding fathers were not fundamentalist Christians, far from it, many (perhaps most) were Diests who believed the bible was myth."
Nope. And neither was Jefferson, PatB. There were a few that weren't religious, but of the 200-odd Founders, they're people you've likely never even heard of. Jefferson was not one of them - the Jefferson Bible ( “The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth”)wasn't about a rejection of miracles, it was something he put together to have as a reference for the 'red letters', or direct words of Jesus Christ & later had pub'd for Indian missionaries to use.
And in regards to Perry, his faith has hardly impeded Texas from becoming a very successful state, in ways that America needs desperately right now. His record speaks well for him, and far overshadow the Gardasil/Bilderberg conspiracists/TTC talking points.
August 7, 2011 at 3:28 p.m.Any number of candidates, *including Ron Paul*, are church-going Christians. None of them have the record Perry does. And that, my friends, is my deciding factor. You can try to hit him on the Texas budget, too - but the part that Perry controls has shrunk by almost a full percentage point every time TX passes one, their sizable rainy day fund will be available for use in the times coming, and TX balances their budgets bi-annually - there is a difference between a 'projected shortfall' & real, carried over 'debt'.
It is simple, If you believe there is a God, then by all means, there is a God for the believers. I am a Believer and worshop my God everyday..
If you don't believe there is a God, then by all means, don't beleive. That is your choice.
We live in a FREE country. How would you like to live where you don't have any freedom or choices?
August 7, 2011 at 2:16 p.m.PSALM 14:1
August 7, 2011 at 1:59 p.m.Interesting to note that a Houston Texans game at the same stadium can draw 70,000+
Sports will save us!
August 7, 2011 at 1:55 p.m.I wasn't there but by the photos comming out looks likes more than 30,000 were there. Political or not we did need a day of prayer even the atheist were praying for it not to be successful.
August 7, 2011 at 1:45 p.m.I cannot assume to know why Perry did this, but going by the timing, it probably was purely political reasoning. Did he ever do this before? Afterall, our Country has been in a tailspin for years.
August 7, 2011 at 12:52 p.m.Is it a coincidence that it is probably leading up to his entering the Presidential race? Is it a coincidence that he has waited this long and in all probability has been looking for a "hook" to draw in a base od supporters?
Prayer is a personal thing. Drawing the masses together in such a public way is no better than praying in the privacy of your own home, so why all of the fanfare?
IMO, There's a reason for the time, and venue and it's not entirely about God.
"How can some of you be so concerned about a book (Bible) that's so full of myths."
I'm proud of you for admitting this, Gary. ;-)
Myth isn't the problem, but some mythguided Christians are.
August 7, 2011 at 11:19 a.m.Beakus
Good point. I seem to detect some fear in the tones of some of these comments.
Really, a bunch of hypocrites (so called) gather to pray to a God that does not exist & they act like this is the worst day of there lives.
How can some of you be so concerned about a book (Bible) that's so full of myths.
Separation of a specific denomination & state yes. Separation of state & truth no.
August 7, 2011 at 10:58 a.m.Deist Founding Fathers, Emancipation, rights for women, gays marrying, etc...
Prayer doesn't have a great track record of working for those Christians who erroneously, emphatically and continuously state this nation is at the point of no return or that our Sodom like ways herald End Times.
Some Chrisitans fear the rise in ambivalence towards their religion, and feel trepidation as to why atheism and irreligiousity grows faster than their own congregations.
So, for those types of Christians I would ask that you continue to pray for our moral salvation, because your God seems to be answering those requests by giving freedom and equality to more and more of the oppressed and disenfranchised in this country.
Praise be!
August 7, 2011 at 10:09 a.m.Amen Pilot. Amen.
August 7, 2011 at 10:06 a.m.Prayer is the only ansewer, our country is is almost gone down the drain.
August 7, 2011 at 8:57 a.m.For those who read the comments of these type articles and are Christians, realize how many of them are apparent agnostics or atheist. Many literally despise the Christian faith and the name of Jesus. Take the time to remember these in your prayers when you pray for our nation.
August 7, 2011 at 8:33 a.m.Don't be fooled, Rick Perry is as a crook like the rest of them. I'll save my vote for our Congressman, Ron Paul.
I'm going to have to disagree (strongly) that the framers of the constitution intended for it to be based on biblical law.
The 1796 Treaty with Tripoli states that the United States was "not in any sense founded on the Christian religion". This treaty was written under the presidency of George Washington and signed under the presidency of John Adams.
Furthermore, the founding fathers were not fundamentalist Christians, far from it, many (perhaps most) were Diests who believed the bible was myth.
I hope that the United States can return to it's freethinking roots, but untill it's citizens comit to educating themselves (and stop regurgitating the lies they've been taught), it's not likely to happen.
Wake.Up.
August 7, 2011 at 8:03 a.m.Don't forget Article VI,Sec.3 of the U.S. Constitution:
August 7, 2011 at 7:52 a.m."no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States"
We elect a President NOT a Pastor. Thomas Jefferson is probably doing projectile vomiting right now!
Patrick Barnes
Governor Rick Perry and Governor Pontius Pilate........Siamese twins seperated by nothing more than time.
August 7, 2011 at 5:01 a.m.Praise the Lord.
