Sally Fulkerson's July 31 letter was right on target. Victoria has such a rich cultural background.
Let's have an annual festival where each ethnic group highlights its history, food, arts, music, etc. These groups are justifiably proud of their heritage and its contribution to making our city what it is. Victoria should provide an opportunity for them to showcase those valuable contributions. This would involve the whole community, not just one segment of it.
A bus tour would be a wonderful addition, as Victoria's historic sites are scattered over an area too scattered for walking.

Thank you, Marie, for pointing out that in our diversity we can shine. When the De Leon's and the Irish immigrants grew Victoria in the early years, there was a merging of cultures and languages (re: Juan Linn) that was a model we can aspire to today. It makes tremendous economic sense.
August 8, 2011 at 10:08 a.m.What happened to the armadillo festival we used to have 20 some odd years ago? We need something like that again.
