VOTE FOR HOSPICE OF SOUTH TEXAS

To vote for Hospice of South Texas in the Toyota 100 Cars For Good program, between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m. Saturday go to www.facebook.com/toyota, find the 100 Cars for Good logo and follow instructions to click on the Hospice of South Texas link.

Hospice of South Texas has an opportunity to win a new car if it gets enough support on Facebook Saturday.

The local nonprofit organization is one of 500 national finalists in the Toyota 100 Cars For Good program, according to a news release from the agency.

If Hospice of South Texas gets the most votes Saturday and is awarded a vehicle, it will be used for the employee who drives the farthest distance to see clients, said Hilary Lucas, director of community relations for Hospice.

"This could equate to thousands of dollars in savings per year for the organization," Lucas said. "These savings will be used for our Community Grief Support Program offered to patients and families, local schools and first responders."

Hospice of South Texas, formed in 1985, is a nonprofit community hospice serving South Texas. Services are provided regardless of ability to pay.

The specialized team, which provides comfort and support to patients with life-limiting illness, consists of a physician, registered nurse, home health aide, social worker, chaplain and a volunteer.

The team travels to the patient's home to provide care including pain and symptom management, personal care needs, psychosocial support and spiritual care.
