Formosa Plastics emergency personnel responded to and extinguished, a non-process fire at its Point Comfort plant shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday.
The fire, located in an open lay-down field where the company stored materials, ignited while personnel dismantled a decommissioned brine-water heat exchanger.
The fire involved the exchanger, as well as surrounding grass and nearby wood.
Formosa Plastics alerted communities in the surrounding area, as per protocol, and emergency response personnel determined the fire did not pose a threat to personnel, process areas or plant facilities. On-site firefighters extinguished the fire with water.
There were no injuries or damage to plant facilities.
