No need yet for rolling blackouts in Crossroads

Despite near-record heat, the Crossroads has been spared rolling blackouts, though plans are in place if they are needed.
"As long as temperatures are extremely hot and above average, we will continue to see statewide appeals for conservation," said Elgin Janssen, spokesman for AEP Texas in Victoria. "Thus far, the appeals have had the desired result."
Janssen said plans to reduce electrical consumption are in place as part of the Emergency Load Shed Plan mandated through the Electric Reliability Council of Texas.
The plan consists of three levels and it is not until Level III is reached that rolling blackouts occur.
Level III was reached on Feb. 2 this year when significant generation capacity in North Texas had to be taken off line because of icing conditions thatendangered safety systems,Janssensaid.
