H-E-B hosts back to school drive for kids in need

In front of a yellow school bus, Leah Miranda waves and holds a flyer while volunteering at the Pack The Bus event at H-E-B Plus! on Friday. The three-day event is aimed at collecting school supplies for families in need.
  • If you would like to donate:

  • Drop off items or money, at either H-E-B location,

    1505 E. Rio Grande or

    6106 North Navarro St., from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.

H-E-B is partnering with community groups for a back-to-school drive.

The Pack the Bus initiative has occurred at the supermarket for the last four years.

The goal is to help students in need get school supplies.

Mary Post, with Kidz Connection, said there were 756 homeless students enrolled in Victoria school district last year. She added the need has increased.

Post, the lead teacher liaison, said Kidz Connection distributed all the supplies in previous years. Now, parents can contact the school liaison to receive assistance.

People interested in donating supplies or money can go to either H-E-B store between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Saturday.
