Alexa Marie Garza, a St. Joseph High School junior, was selected to attend the National Leadership Forum on Medicine in Washington, D.C. She was selected to join high school students from around the country who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership and an interest in medicine. The students engaged in a simulation using problem-based learning, an educational method in which students are presented with a fictional patient's case history. The students then diagnosed and developed a treatment plan for the patient. They also visited cutting-edge medical schools and clinical facilities. They were able to hear from and interact with leaders within the medical field. She is the daughter of Joseph and Claudia Garza, of Victoria.
