This week we want to remind everyone about our school zones starting up again, and in turn, our agency's enforcement of those school zones once again. Please remind all your friends and family, so we can make the streets around our schools safe for children coming to and from school.
Please watch your speeds and your use of cell phones in active school zones, as well as every traffic law that applies while you are driving on our Texas streets. Remember operating a motor vehicle in Texas is a privilege the state extends to its citizens; it is not a right, contrary to what most people believe.
Why the emphasis on these particular traffic laws?
Safety is our primary concern dealing with speeding and cell phone use enforcement in school zones. People nowadays have busy lives and are always multitasking to get here and there.
Often times there does not seem to be enough time in the day to get things done. But please remember to watch out for school zones, and where those school zones are as you motor about town to avoid a costly citation, or God forbid driving into a child who is trying to walk to school.
In order to keep our roads safe, the Victoria Police Department conducts daily traffic enforcement activities. Citations and written warnings are a means to correct and change driving behavior so all of us who drive along Texas highways are safe.
The Victoria Police Department Traffic Safety Unit reminds you to drive safely. The life you save may be your own, or in this case, that of a young child with his or her whole life ahead of them.
