I don't believe the current commuity center has ever been a break even proposition. Every year tax dollars, over and above the revenue generated, are needed to cover the costs of maintenance. If a new facility is justified it MUST be developed with private dollars not tax dollars. We may be seeing a bubble in the oil/gas sector but like every one in the past it will not last forever. We don't need another expense added to what tax payers already are burdened with. If this convention center is justified (demand) PRIVATE dollars should be readily available to pay for it (supply). Let the private investors shoulder the risk and reap the financial benefits, if they happen. Tax dollars should not be put at risk in a business venture. There are other more pressing issues tax dollars should be invested in like roads, fire and police.

Comments and ideals like the ones expressed by Soliz is exactly why he does not need to be on the council. If a convention center is to be built, it needs to be where out of towners can see it and find it easily. Expansion is on the north end of town, not on North St. Furthermore, the city should consider a skate park on the north end of town. I have also wondered what putting the livestock show carnival up north would bring. I refuse to go to the carnival because of all the wannabes roaming the grounds. I realize it makes sense putting it next to the community center because the animals and such are there, but would it keep the local gangster wannabes away all the while attracting more people like myself.

When you let a independent company run your financial part of a business that is when after a while you find out that you have been ripped off. It is better to have city employees run the center both maintenance finances the works. Only time will tell how much more money is going to be spent on something that anyone on the street could of have told you. When the property is built when ever that will be another thing to take into consideration is to make sure no one in the council city government etc. has a conflict of interest with the purchase of the land. Only saying this since this town is know for its good ole boy attitude.
