A traffic stop by the Texas Highway Patrol Tuesday morning resulted in the arrest of a Brownsville man and the confiscation of three kilos of cocaine.

A traffic stop on U.S. Highway 59 Tuesday morning resulted in the arrest of a 39-year-old Brownsville man after the discovery of three kilos of cocaine.

At 10:15 a.m., a 2003 Ford Mustang convertible was stopped for a moving violation on U.S. Highway 59, just north of Telferner, said Department of Public Safety spokesman Trooper Gerald Bryant.

"During the interview the trooper noticed several indicators of criminal activity and received a verbal consent to search," Bryant said.

The trooper located three kilos of cocaine, about 6 pounds, with a street value of $75,000, inside a fire wall, said Bryant.

The driver, Ivan David Arevalo remained in the Victoria County Jail charged with possession of a controlled substance. Arevalo was en route from Brownsville to Houston, said Bryant.
