Postal Service schedules 2 public meetings in Jackson County

Aug. 29, 2011 at 3:29 a.m.

The U.S. Postal Service has scheduled public meetings in two Jackson County communities to discuss the future of the post offices there.

At 6 p.m. Wednesday, postal officials will be in LaSalle at

St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 4562 County Road 325.

At 6 p.m. Thursday, the Postal Service will host a public meeting at the LaWard Fire Department, 14086 state Highway 172.

During both meetings, customers will have an opportunity to discuss alternatives to the way postal services are provided in their communities.

A Postal Service review of business activities at these post offices revealed that the workload has declined. This reduced workload suggests the maintenance of an independent post office may no longer be warranted in these communities, according to a news release from the Postal Service.
