Fred Nieto Jr., Lavaca County justice of the peace, Moulton municipal judge and used car salesman, is under investigation by the Lavaca County District Attorney's Office.
District Attorney Heather McMinn would not elaborate on details of the ongoing investigation.
"We have had numerous citizens complaints involving Fred Nieto and an investigation is in progress," said the district attorney.
McMinn said she has asked the Texas Rangers to assist her office in the investigation.
Earlier this month, Nieto was placed on unpaid administrative leave from his position as Moulton municipal judge and municipal court was canceled through September, according to a notice posted on the door of the Moulton city hall.
Moulton Mayor Ervin Patek declined comment on the action.
The district attorney's office investigation may involve Nieto's used car business.
In August 2010, his license was approved for revocation and a fine of $7,500 imposed by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles for a total of eight violations, according to the minutes of the agency's board of directors meeting.
Those violations included, among others, failure to maintain complete records, sold or offered to sell motor vehicles without the appropriate license for that type of motor vehicle, and failure to timely transfer title and pay sales tax.
Nieto's license was officially revoked on Jan. 12 of this year, said Kim Sue Lia Perkes, Texas DMV public information officer.

you moulton people have no sense of humor - but you sure know to make the news
September 1, 2011 at 7:30 a.m.seems like everything that happens in Moulton, the mayor has no comment. whatever happened to the lawsuit that was filed against the city of moulton, the police, and several other people by the poor lady that evicted from her rent house and driven out of town by these bullies. the city of moulton is like a big cult. if you were born there, you can get away with anything. It just gets swept under the rug. If not, look out!! As far as Mr. Nieto goes, if he did nothing wrong, him and his family deserve a huge apology. If he did, then justice should be served.

All ya'll know is hear/say.. so until you get the story straight i ask that you leave my family out of it. No one has complained.. and i don't know one person who wants to see him hung! So stop the "crap" talking and the rumors! That's so immature. Grow up!
