Volunteers needed for annual H-E-B Feast of Sharing

WHAT: 19th annual Feast of Sharing

The 21st annual H-E-B Feast of Sharing community dinner will be served from 3-7 p.m., Dec. 19 at the Victoria Community Center, 2905 E. North St.
Volunteers are needed to assist with set up, food preparation, plate servers and clean up, said event coordinator Gus Kroos.
To volunteer, call 211. The deadline to register to volunteer is Dec. 18. Groups, families, and individuals are invited to participate.
The event will also include a Winter Wonderland featuring children's activities and crafts, a visit from Santa Claus and live entertainment.
In addition, 200 free flu shots will be available on a first come, first serve basis.
Details on the entertainment will be released soon, Kroos said.
More than 5,000 meals are expected to be served. All together, 1,250 pounds of glazed ham, 155 gallons of mashed potatoes, 90 gallons of green beans, 60 gallons of brown gravy, 450 pies, 5,000 dinner rolls and soft drinks will be served, according to a news release from H-E-B.
Feast of Sharing is a tradition started by Florence Butt more than 100 years ago when she hosted community dinners in her home.
It has grown to 31 locations that serve more than 250,000 hot meals to people throughout Texas and Mexico, according to the news release.
