  • First, I am 100% on your side here.

Second, You might want to be ready. When people with "friends in high places" want something, a little bit of rule bending isn't going to stop them.

In some situations like this when the dust settles it leaves people like you and me scratching our heads and saying WTF just happened???

  • Gary - "As a kid I saw some porn, after a while something deep in my soul & heart told that it was wrong."

After a while? A while can be quite long.... You mean you did not know instantly?

  • I guess Gary has a good source for his comment,
"Satan becomes very violent when he is challenged & has to consider loosing even a tea spoon of his perverted agenda/territory that he has fought so hard for."
People, beware of wolves wearing sheeps clothing, perhaps Gary is satan?

  • Put it on the ballot and lets see how the general public feels. The government wants to have a say in everything, lets make sure the real government (the people) are in agreement.

  • Gary.

Have it ever occur to you that you though your posts and though your attitude, have done more in advertising porn than the lady who rents them out? Have you, Gary W?

For the past weeks, you have been playing victim in your emails and on here. Just like your last post where you said, “you are ready to stone any one who is willing to cry out about it & warn the people.” I do not believe anyone wants to stone or harm you or anyone else. (Psst!!! PSST !!!This is between us, no one don’t want to waste time with a person like yourself. ) However I’ll say this, the negative reaction you receive isn’t because you are a Christian. The real reason you receive major negative replys is because you are offensive. You want the government stop people from doing their First Amendment right to EXPRESS THEMSELVES. Next reason is that you try to force your beliefs on others. Your Great and strong ignorance. Last reason you have stated hatful things over and over. I may speak for myself, but there is a lot of Posters whom I speak offline are getting very, very tired of you.

Now, most folks would be uncomfortable to see their mothers sisters etc in a porno, but many people would be a lot more uncomfortable and to the point of being sick if or when you push your religious beliefs on others. When you try to make America (or this area at least) into a Christian Fascist or a Theocratic state.

Gary, you have also speak out of both sides from your mouth. How can you tell GOPLOVECHILD that it isn’t your business for he does in his bedroom, but yet wanting to get in his business to sell his product ????

If what I said offends you or troubles you, then I suggest that you turn off your computer and refrain from posting ever again. Good night!!!!

    Mr. Williams.

  • Wow, all this over the advertisement of X-rated movie rentals!

Look what's on the plate here in SA: http://www.ksat.com/news/Battle-over-...

  • Justamom

Would it be ok to advertise porn dvds at the library or in the high schools, bus stops ? Or how about at the restaurants/grocery stores?

Lovechild I dont care what you do in your bedroom, but if you make a film of it & then want to sell it to the public & advertise on the streets, then I will try to shame you over it & let you know that it is not acceptable behavior.

Watching people commit adultery & acting out rape scenes is just the same as if you did it personally yourself.

Would you be comfortable with the porn if it was your mother in the films? Your sister etc.
These paid prostitutes that are performing for the public are somebody's mother, sis etc.

I find satan to be very greedy concur, he is not satisfied with just controlling most of the territory;TV, Internet, malls etc he wants to be able to have his say his will over everything including the little corner store. The more he can get his message out to all segments of society the more it can become common place, acceptable, no big deal porn is every where, after a while people can become comfortable with it & more accepting of it. And satan just smiles as he has so successfully rocked you to sleep. Even worse; declaring that God told you to rent out porn. Even worse than being asleep you are ready to stone any one who is willing to cry out about it & warn the people.

Satan becomes very violent when he is challenged & has to consider loosing even a tea spoon of his perverted agenda/territory that he has fought so hard for.

As a kid I saw some porn, after a while something deep in my soul & heart told that it was wrong.

I never read a Bible, never heard a preacher, never met a bible thumper, but yet something deep inside told me that it was wrong.

I appeal to you fine people out there, can you hear that still small voice.

The topic is regulations, rules and zoning. This protects both the majority and the minority.

Has absolutely nothing to do with either people partaking in porn viewing or liver and onions. Most assuredly has nothing to do with the fact you don't like liver.
Nor does it particularly adversely affect the business that catering to the porn and liver consumers. Simply operate the business in accordance to the rules.

I don't understand how you read into my comment anything about what I like or dislike. Certainly made some false assumptions.

As much as I like having chicken for supper or fuel in my car - has nothing to due with the regulations, zoning, business practices of the companies producing and distributing these products.

Quoting your comment: "By the way, are SURE it is a majority of people who want porn movies banned?"
Answer: I do not have a clue - didn't even consider researching - it has no bearing on the subject.

My comments reflect my opinion, nothing more, nothing less.
The goal at hand is balancing the desires/needs of the many while protecting the few. It makes sense.

    December 7, 2011 at 6:07 p.m.
  • Tophat...While the majority does rule, there are supposed to be procedures in place to protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority. Please explain just why you figure that a law is needed to "protect" the majority from some movies that some people watch. Unless those folks are in the driveway projecting the movie onto the garage door for all the nighbors to see, you are not being bothered. Heck, unless you're a peeping Tom, you won't even be aware of their choice of movie entertainment. Nobody cares if you watch old re-runs of Billy Graham crusades. Why do you care if your neighbor watches porn? Different strokes for different folks. (No pun intended) By the way, are SURE it is a majority of people who want porn movies banned? I would remind you that even in this economy, the sex industry is booming. According to crossculturalconnections.org over a half million people are employed in adult caberets in the U.S. A small club in a rural area can generate over a million dollars each year. Are you SURE that a majority of people object to adult entertainment?

I am curious about any other things, that since you don't like them, obviously they should be illegal. Perhaps I could play that game, too. I don't like liver and onions. I think it's a terrible waste of good onions. I want a LAW to prevent people from cooking and consuming liver and onions. All those who don't like liver please join me in trying to get our county commissioners and city council members to ban liver comsumption in private homes in the county. Makes no difference whether YOU like liver, I DON'T and that should be the end of it. It's not enough that people have the freedom to decide for THEMSELVES whether they want to eat liver or avoid it like the plague, we need a law to keep it away from kids who might be influenced to like the stuff if they are allowed to sniff or taste it.

  • mission - i think the issue is not your movies per say... as they are "tucked" away in a corner behind a curtain. It is the fact your over the top sign is letting everyone know they are there...
IMO with a sign like that, you really do not need to make any effort to "tuck" those things away...kinda defeats the purpose dont ya think?

    December 7, 2011 at 11:02 a.m.
  • Some people need to tuck in their tails, cut off the computer, and keep their mouths shut. How can person, whose name shall remain nameless, can preach that we “should change our diet” for the Lord, but yet wanting the church to ban Interracial dating & Marriages?

  • Game05- I give you that there are SOME questionable people. However, that is a long term problem. When Victoria failed to have zoning laws, they issued this in. I live in a very high end sub-burb of Houston and not more than 10 miles down the road is a strip club and adult book and movie store. It is on a highway and away from homes. Now, if Victoria addressed zoning back in the day, then these neighborhoods would not have this problem.

Gary- I seriously pray God shows you the way my friend. You have turned Christanity into a hate filled rant every time you are on here. You cannot treat people this way and expect God to be proud of you. Love one another.

  • GOPLOVECHILD.

Thank you for saying what I have been thinking all this. The posters on this site and those local religious conservatives who attend Tea Parties protesting ObamaCare and yet favor the government going into people’s businesses are Hypocrites !!!!! This proves a point I made since 2009, this isn’t about politics, it is about HATE, HATE, HATE , and fear. That’s right CROSSROADS AREA FOLKS, I said it ............and THAT’S THE TRUTH !!!!!

  • First of all I have driven by Ms. Luster's business dozens of times and didn't even know it was there until she started getting all this publicity. Then I drove by and looked for it. These homes and businesses have been out there FOREVER. Didn't the people who bought and built homes in Lakeview know there were businesses and older homes in the area? Or did you just assume you could run them off?
As far as I know nothing she is selling or advertising is against the law. Of course I don't have to live next to her so I don't care what her sign says. Oh but it is a free country last I heard so neither do any of you! She was there long before any of you so just cut your losses and move.
Can someone tell me when this meeting is with the Commisioners? I want to make sure I am there to voice my opinion least they decide what my rights are for me.

    December 6, 2011 at 7:48 p.m.
  • This has to be the most over the top ridiculous rant I've read on the advocate in years.

“very true, that Victoria's Secret store in a mall where children walk is horrifying. all those advertisements with women wearing underbritches, yet it would be illegal for a real person to walk around the mall wearing the same thing. And yes, all R-rated movies at the theatre should be banned, as well. even if it's just adults attending these disgusting movies, i think it says a lot about the sort of town that we're creating here which would embrace this sort of immoral behaviour. the Internet should also be banned in town, as it is a gateway to sin. people look at censorship like it's a bad thing, but we need more of it in order to protect our future and the future of our children.”

First, it would not be illegal for a real person to walk around the mall wearing the Victoria Secrets underbritches.

Second, remove all of these “immoral R rated movies”? Really? You can not be serious.

Third, the “internet should also be banned in town, as it is a gateway to sin”. Actually that is a good idea fro obvious reasons; I say ban the internet at your house.

Hey Advocates...give this rationally challenged individual a column. It would cause such a stir, creating more subscribers. You can publish it under self help, so we can learn how to protect our children!

    December 6, 2011 at 7:18 p.m.
  • even if morality weren't the issue, the county is protecting property values and the higher taxes that come with it. nobody should have to raise children right next to a smut shop. what kind of message does that give? illicit businesses encourage the presence of the criminal and immoral element (just like nobody wants to live next to a casino). the county is only protecting itself by discouraging some types of business in the area and thereby keeping property taxes high.

  • Justamom, you are right on the money. Perhaps more people would embrace christian missionary work if the majority of the lot, would stop being so self righteous. People like the guy on the first comment who seems to be an illiterate, turns me away from the lord. Yes, Gary, the things you say remind me of why I do not attend or support any of the congregations here in Victoria.

    December 6, 2011 at 3:01 p.m.
  • Ok so I am not a fan of the adult industry, but it is my choice. I would hate to have my choice taken from me which is what you are doing to these business owners. As long as it isn't child porn or smuggling russian brides, who cares. Just like you prefer one restaraunt over the other, if you don't like it drive on by. Let people be. It is not up to the city to dictate what kind of business you can have or tell people what they can and cannot do in their spare time. People are against video games, if you took that away, I would be pissed. :)

As for the overly pushy Christian. I take offense to the ones like yourself. I am a Christian and I believe to love the sinner and hate the sin. I am also a firm believer in not judging anyone, so that I am not that harshly judged. Being Christian does not give you the right to be correct all the time, judge, condem, or to think you are better than everyone else. God loves all of His children, even the ones you dislike or disagree with.

  • Will this country ever realize that morality CANNOT be legislated . Tax the hell out of it and let it be !!!

    December 6, 2011 at 11:36 a.m.
  • The decision to buy or view any type of movie should be left up to the individual. As usual a few are dictating what is good for the county and as usual the higher ups agree. That brings up the old saying "Good ole boy" get er done. Funny how you see all those arm chair christian come out of the wood works claiming to do it in the name of the higher power but which higher power are they really backing. This is all I have to say on this matter.

    December 6, 2011 at 10:40 a.m.
  • These are the same people who rant and rave about Obama putting small business folk out of business and want government out of their lives. This has nothing to do with children.
    Hypocrites, the whole damn lot.

    December 6, 2011 at 9:36 a.m.
  • If i want to rent and watch porn flicks it's none of you peoples business
Just like those illegal acts many of you perform in your bedroom is none of my business

  • Pat-
A majority of founding fathers signed the Bill of Rights into law. Every change and amendment as been approved by the majority vote of the legislative body.

Zoning and other regulations are passed by the majority.
My neighbor may want to build a refinery next door - doesn't mean the it is in the best interest of the majority. As such, zoning and other regulations help protect the majority.

It's a real stretch to match this zoning and/or regulation topic to the Bill of Rights.

    December 6, 2011 at 7:44 a.m.
  • There is, and suppose always will be, a black market for any item.
Perhaps disconcerting that you have already plotted methods.

FYI - Automatic weapons are not illegal- They are solely regulated. Recreational drugs are not illegal - distribution, possession, and use may be legal.
Alcohol (a drug) is legal, I still don't want my neighbor selling it out of his garage.

Both are unimportant to the topic at hand. I was attempting an example, which obviously can be twisted to fit your opinion.

To answer your question- I already drew the line as stated. Apparently not sufficiently clear?

    December 6, 2011 at 7:21 a.m.
  • This entire situation is absurd. Sounds like a bunch of whiny-busys-bodies living out there. I am thinking some parents are just clueless. They don't want a few movies sold, yet they will take their kids to see movies that have plenty of sex in it, ie Bridesmaids. Part of the new generation of letting kids 'express themselves'. What a bunch of hypocrites. I worked for someone whose spouse was all about getting the 'porn' magazines out of the convenience stores (the ones behind the counters), yet my boss had a drawer full of those same type of magazines at work!!! I had to laugh at that! I am not into any of that stuff, but I firmly believe that if a person reads or watches it, does NOT turn them into any kind of pervert or predator ... they were already like that! There is way too much control over our personal lives. We soon will have NO freedom to even think.

    December 6, 2011 at 7:12 a.m.
  • I'm curious as to what "regulate" actually means in this instance? Could be a way to generate revenue by requiring some sort of permit.
Tophat, majority rule has nothing to do with the Bill of Rights. That's why the framers wrote it the way they did. And that's why we aren't a true democracy. If M.R. controlled everything the Bill of Rights would be gone in a minute.

  • "if it's not Biblical, then it should be illegal."

Wait a second, last time I looked there was quite a bit of violence, prostitution, etc. in the Bible.

    December 6, 2011 at 7:04 a.m.
  • While fully automatic weapons cannot be sold- normal retail business (beyond the regulations and special licensing exceptions) - Would you be pleased if your neighbor just sells them out of his garage?

Since Walgreens doesn't sell recreational drugs, perhaps the employees can sell these items at garage sales to only be used in the privacy of their home?

Kindly realize most citizens do not have a misunderstanding.
In light of the functionality of our system- the majority is supposed to rule.

The majority do not own or viewed "adult" videos- you are catering to a select group.
Where there is smoke, there often times is indeed fire.

very true, that Victoria's Secret store in a mall where children walk is horrifying. all those advertisements with women wearing underbritches, yet it would be illegal for a real person to walk around the mall wearing the same thing.
