Two incumbent Victoria County commissioners file for re-election; DeWitt sheriff to run again

Two incumbent Victoria County commissioners and the DeWitt County sheriff have filed for re-election.

In Victoria, Republican Gary Burns, 59, Precinct 3 commissioner and Democrat Kenny Spann, 55, Precinct 1 commissioner, have both filed.

Spann will have a challenger in the primary, Daniel "Danny" Garcia, 50, who is retired from the Texas highway department.

Also filing in the Democratic Primary was Rena Scherer, incumbent Victoria County tax assessor-collector.

In DeWitt County, incumbent sheriff Jode Zavesky, 52, filed for re-election on Friday.

Zavesky has been sheriff for six years after four years as a county constable. He was also a captain in the Victoria Fire Department and a reserve DeWitt County deputy.

Zavesky has been a licensed peace officer since 1981.
