State Rep. Geanie Morrison of Victoria will not run for re-election.

Morrison announced the decision in a news release Friday afternoon.

Morrison previously repre sented House District 30, which was dismantled by the federal court’s redrawing of the map passed by the 82nd Texas Legislature. She would have had to run in the newly redrawn District 32.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the people of the Crossroads area for more than a decade. Unfortu nately, the actions of a federal court have made it no longer possible for me to serve an important area of the state that I have proudly served since 1999,” Morrison said in the release.

Morrison’s decision not to run was significantly impact ed by a serious illness in her family.

Under the new map, Morri son would have to spend a substantial amount of time away from her family in the areas of the district she has not represented, according to the news release.

Incumbent District 32 Rep. Todd Hunter has filed for re-election.
