A 25-year-old motorcyclist was hospitalized after he hit a guardrail Monday afternoon.

Harley Pennington, of Victoria, was driving north on Guy Grant Road and went into a side skid, pinning his blue motorcycle into a guardrail at Castleway Street, said Victoria Police Officer Zachary DeLaRosa.

Pennington was transported by ambulance to Citizens Medical Center with road rash, DeLaRosa said.

DeLaRosa is still investigating why Pennington went into a side skid.

A Ford F-250 truck had turned north onto Guy Grant from Castleway at the time of the wreck, but DeLaRosa could not determine whether the truck got in the way of the motorcycle or if the motorcycle was traveling over the speed limit.

No citations were issued, DeLaRosa added.

  • Yes there is a billboard on loop 463 near Salem rd. It has a picture of a kid killed by a guy whos excuse was "he didn't see him" the sign says " do you see me know? " killed on a motorcycle. Because the other vehicle wasn't paying attention.

  • Glad you're all right.
I don't ride a Motorcycle. I'm A Cyclist. And for those that ride bicycles, you can take every problem Bikers have with Car drivers and triple it. At least they understand a motorcycle is supposed to be in the street and not on a sidewalk.
I don't know how many times someone has got into a road-rage fit screaming at me to "GET OUT OF THE (bleeping) STREET!!!" When I am exactly where I am supposed to be.
Just two days ago I was in the left turn lane on Navarro near DETAR, I was going to make a left turn and was patiently awaiting a clearance in southbound traffic to make my turn when some moron going southbound actually leans out shaking his fist and screaming that very thing.

Listen up all you idiots driving cars and truck... Cyclists are SUPPOSED to ride in the street and obey all traffic laws just as a car does. That includes using left turn lanes and obeying traffic lights, one ways, yields, and merge lanes.

It is so bad that at least 5 times I have been INTENTIONALLY ran off the road by those who think that because they are mistaken about my right to be in the road, they have a right to hit me.

A Cyclist rides on the rightmost edge of the roadway, or the rightmost edge of whatever lane they are required to be in. They do so because yes they ARE slower and to allow faster traffic to go around them.

MAKE NO MISTAKE THOUGH... We DO occupy the lane we are in even if keeping to the right. That means you do not come up along side us and pace us in the same lane... YOU PASS US and move on. IF your turn is coming up and you need to turn right and there is a Cyclist right there you hold back and make your turn, or you make sure to get far enough ahead to make your turn safely. You DO NOT just barely clear us and without warning cut right across us. We CANT stop that fast and you will hit us.
That too has happened even more often than the intentional hits and every time their excuse is the same. "Well, You're not supposed to be in the road"
Got news for ya there bub.. You're a moron".

Some big fat hispanic dude who was a welder driving a black Pickup truck with a welding bed did just that to me at Delmar and Lonetree. Cut right across me as he was passing me up. He was not even clear of me but beside me. Had I not been starting my turn into the same parking lot as he, I would have gone under his wheels and killed because of this jack***. Unapologetic, he claimed it was my fault for being in the street and even wanted to assault me for it. People like that need to have their driving privilege taken away permanently before they do kill someone.

  • Yea. My bikes messed up and I'm sore. But thanx for your interest and concerns. Bikes are fun but it doesn't matter how careful you are things happen. I'm glad I'm not hurt worse and will probably invest in a truck..for now. Sorry for coming off harsh. You can understand.

  • Pennington, I have to agree with you. There are so many people in this town that shouldn't be driving. Just an hour ago I was minding my own business driving down Rio Grande and a truck decides to back out into the middle of the road and didn't even look back. I had to swerve to avoid him, at that, on wet roads. Not too long ago, I got hit from behind in my Jeep not once but twice in a matter of 7 days because PEOPLE DON'T PAY ATTENTION! They also didn't have insurance or a drivers license. Go figure! Sad to say that we have some pretty irresponsible drivers in this town!

  • Motocycle Small... Car Big... Car crush Bike.

Bikes are small and hide easily in blind spots. They also accelerate quickly and appear where they weren't only a split second before.

Bikes are fun but like TxBohem said, you got to watch out for those bike crushing cars.

  • Wow pennington, tell us how you really feel!!

    Just pulling your chain here!

I will disagree with one of your statements:
"OLD PEOPLE IN FORDS NEED TO WATCH OUT BEFORE PULLING OUT..."

I think this needs to be "ALL people in ANY car..."

I'm a biker too and I know where your coming from.

My theory is "Ride like everyone is out to get you."

  • and to all those who care to comment later on , i ride motorcycles, its my passion. i find such love in it, i will never give it up. all your negativity or opinions can go in a jar and put them somewhere i cant mention on this post. people need to be more aware of there surrounding, because this isnt the first time ive heard of this happening. and its not gonna be the last. on a daily im constantly avoiding peoples stupidity . and then they call me the idiot for riding. like i said before, i love to ride, i always will. but these people need to start watching out, so we dont have another story of some kid dieing because some idiot wasnt watching out for bikers!

  • the ford pulled out in front of me.. i was doing 40 or 50, probably a lil fast for that road, but cant stop regardless when someone just darts in front of you. . . he jumped right out in front of me. i locked up the tires and dumped the bike to avoid slamming into his tail gate. would have died if i didnt do what i did. OLD PEOPLE IN FORDS NEED TO WATCH OUT BEFORE PULLING OUT in front of anybody EVER! and to all those people who ride the left hand turning lane before merging. ... its called a left hand turning lane for a reason. not a friggin merging lane. im ok. got discharged and hour ago. yea, thanx
