Fox fundraiser considered a success
Editor, the Advocate:
A note of praise and gratitude is due the citizens of Victoria, Port Lavaca and other surrounding communities for the support of the Friends of Fox Family Scholarship Fundraiser or the "FFFSF." For those who contributed supplies for the barbecue plates and Jeff Svetlik (whose idea became the impetus to have the event) and his friends to cook the brisket, sausage and beans - plus those in the kitchen preparing the German-style potatoes and getting the condiments ready for the day.
Also for all those who sold tickets, brought desserts to sell that day, made up the plates and delivered them to the customers. It was heartwarming also to have volunteers show up that day to pitch in unsolicited. There just is too many to list.
Then there is the good people at Christ the Victor Lutheran Church who sponsored the event and loaned us their building, kitchen, parking space, drive way and lawn to make it happened. A note of appreciation goes to Katina Arterberry who pitched in by donating briskets from Uncle Mutt's Bar-B-Q when we ran out. We were given a two-for-one match up to $600 from the Greater Victoria Area Thrivent Financial Chapter which is appreciated.
It was especially significant and notable that even some who came for the to-go plates - after we ran out of food - gave their donation to the cause regardless. Are you people great or what?
All in all, $9,600 was raised for the Scholarship Fund (created by the Victoria Advocate) which will go to Tanner and Bailey Fox when they need funds for their educational needs post high school graduation.
Those who pitched in and those who donated or both, helping these two young people who lost their parents (Nancy to heart disease and Craig to ALS) are to be complimented and are appreciated.
