A two vehicle accident on Sam Houston near Cherry Street sent three people to the hospital. The KIA SUV was stopped waiting to turn left when a truck failed to stop and struck the SUV without braking.

Three people were taken to a hospital Saturday after a two-vehicle collision on Sam Houston Drive.

Melinda Alvarez, 34, of Victoria, and her daughter, Elexis Alvarez, 9, were dropping off supplies at Tanglewood Club House for a surprise party for her 15-year-old daughter, Cierra Rivera, said Alvarez' sister Melissa Perales, 41, of Victoria.

As Alvarez attempted to make a left-hand turn in her black Kia Sedona from Sam Houston Drive onto Rosewood Drive, her vehicle was struck from behind by a silver GMC pickup, driven by William Upham, 26, of Victoria, said Patrol Officer Tanya Brown. The Sedona slid about a block on Sam Houston Drive. The crash was reported at 10:49 a.m.

The pickup driver was found at fault for failure to control speed, but the accident is still under investigation, Brown said.

Alvarez and her daughter were taken to DeTar Hospital Navarro, and Upham was taken to Citizens Medical Center.
