Rod Jahn will take his seat on the Yoakum City Council at its next meeting at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 10. The council meets at the Yoakum City Hall, 808 alternate U.S. Highway 77 South.
Lifelong Yoakum resident Rod Jahn has been named to the Yoakum City Council.
Jahn, 50, was appointed Dec. 22 to fill the unexpired term of Margie McMullen, who resigned earlier this month after almost 10 years on the city council. The term will expire in May 2012.
"I did not seek the position, but I am honored to be asked," Jahn said. "I have never been one to turn my back on community service."
Yoakum Mayor Annie Rodriguez said she thinks Jahn will fit right in on the city council.
"He's young. He'll bring some new ideas. He's already active in the community," she said.
Jahn serves on the board of directors of the Bluebonnet Youth Ranch. His family has owned and operated Jahn Refrigeration since he was a child.
"I went to work here with my dad when I was 12," Jahn said. "It's the only job I've ever had."
Jahn and his wife Jennifer have two children.
