OPPORTUNITIES IN THE COMMUNITY
Jan. 7 - 52nd annual Junior League of Victoria Charity Ball, 7 p.m. to midnight, Victoria Country Club, tickets $150, call 361-573-4508 and leave message. Jan. 8 - 22nd Annual Bridal Showcase, Noon to 5 p.m., fashion show at 2 p.m., Victoria Community Center, $5 at the door, sponsored by Pilot Club of Victoria, 361-676-2573.
PILOT CLUB OF VICTORIA
The focus of Pilot Club is brain related disorders and injuries.
The signature project for the Pilot Club of Victoria is Project Lifesaver.
Project Lifesaver helps provide rapid response to save lives and reduce potential for serious injury for adults and children who wander due to Alzheimer's, Autism, Down Syndrome, dementia and other related cognitive conditions.
Project Lifesaver provides equipment, training, certification and support to law enforcement, public safety organizations and community groups.
HISTORY: Founded locally in 1948
AREAS SERVED: Victoria County
SERVICES PROVIDED: Project Lifesaver, supports Challenger League Baseball and Shining Stars Bowling, offers scholarships to Victoria College and University of Houston-Victoria.
GREATEST NEEDS: Members who would like to make a difference in the community and share in great friendships.
FUNDING: Donations, mainly from two major fundraisers - the Bridal Showcase in January and the spaghetti supper in March.
STAFF: All volunteer. Valarie McGuill, president. Board of directors.
