Art Corner: Victoria Art League offers variety of art classes
By Bill BauerAs we move into 2012, we at the Victoria Art League hope you all had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We are excited about the upcoming year and plan to continue to offer various art opportunities for the community throughout the year.
Starting in January we have some new classes and a workshop planned.
Angie Banta Brown, an accomplished artist and teacher from New Braunfels, will be here for four days in January.
She has won many awards for her art and will give a demonstration on watercolor painting at our monthly Art League meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8.
If you are interested in seeing her in action, you are always welcome at all of our programs.
The next three days, Jan. 9-11, she will teach the art of watercolor to anyone interested in joining her class. This is a great opportunity for anyone who would like to learn about the techniques of watercolor. I know I plan on taking the class, so maybe I will see you there. Contact the Art League at 361-572-0825 if you would like more information.
Jim Feig will teach a digital photography class for beginners from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, starting Jan. 10. Jim is a very accomplished, creative and knowledgeable photographer who has won many awards. If interested, call him at 361-576-0578 for information.
I will teach a pottery class for beginners on Tuesdays for six weeks starting Jan. 31 and another for those with pottery experience on Thursdays beginning Feb. 2. I will offer afternoon classes from 1-4 p.m. and another from 6-9 p.m. for both classes. Contact me at 361-575-3216 for more information if interested.
Sonny Timme and some of his students will be featured as Artists of the Month through January and will have some of their work hanging in a special section of our gallery. Come to the Art League at 905 S. Bridge St. and see their artwork and others.
He will continue to teach his two classes on Wednesdays, one afternoon and one evening and would like to help you develop your artistic skills. Call him at 361-578-8722.
Michele Evans had a very successful Santa's Workshop with full classes on both days. She will continue teaching children's classes in January and will be featuring pottery classes on Wednesdays after school while Monday, Tuesday and Thursday is art encompassing a variety of media. Each class will meet once a week. Classes will be limited to eight students per class. There is still room in each class, so if interested or if you have questions, call Michele at 361-572-8093.
Mark Keathley will teach an oil painting workshop in March.
So you can see we are trying to offer you, our community and the surrounding area opportunities to learn and participate in the visual arts.
Come join us as a student or maybe consider joining us as a member.
You are always welcome to come to our monthly meetings the second Sunday of each month as our guest to see an artist demonstration in various media.
Just read my Art Corner column each month to see what the programs will be offered for that month or call the Art League to get information on what is going on. Happy creating and Happy New Year.
