A man was taken to DeTar Hospital Navarro after inhaling smoke at a house fire Saturday afternoon.

The Victoria Fire Department responded to the blaze in the 1000 block of North Cameron Street at 1:38 p.m.

Eight people had been in the living room playing XBox 360 when the fire ignited.

"We plugged in a fan and then we started smelling smoke, so we unplugged it," said Eva Delgado, 23, who was in the living room at the time.

One of the children went to get something out of the kitchen and came back to tell the others smoke was billowing out the kitchen, Delgado said.

Everyone made it out of the house safely.

Nicholas Garcia, 18, inhaled smoke while attempting to put out the flames and was taken to DeTar Hospital Navarro, where a hospital spokeswoman said he was in stable condition.

The fire was contained to the clothes dryer in the kitchen where it originated, said Capt. David Kahlich.

"There was really no other damage to the house besides light smoke damage," Kahlich said.

The specific cause of the fire remained under investigation.
