Advocate editorial board opinion: Time for making New Year's resolutions
Many of us are thinking about New Year's resolutions. Normally, the word resolution means to make a determination, but we think even more simply, making a resolution is the same as setting a goal.
The more common goals are to lose weight, stop eating foods with lots of fat and consume more healthy foods.
We have no problem with getting rid of that spare tire or trunk, as the case may be. In fact, we encourage you to pursue such goals. Setting goals to be healthier will result in feeling better, living longer and avoiding excessive medical bills.
We also urge you to consider getting rid of anger as a goal. Angry people seem to be prevalent in our society, and that might be because of the status quo or some other reason.
Regardless the reason, the decorum of life needs to be revisited. Being polite is the desired way to interact and serves progress.
Be nice to others, including your family. An attitude of tolerance saves on the nerves, eliminates stress and promises a healthy life. Being angry all the time is not healthy and counterproductive in any situation.
While we are reviewing goals, on a bigger scale, we urge our Victoria city government to continue working on goals to make our quality of life better and better: downtown revitalization, enhancing tourism, developing more parks for our residents, improving streets and supporting business and a convention center. We look forward to a successful Main Street program downtown.
And we urge our four-year university to continue growing while planning for that growth.
We think if these goals are met, we will prosper and benefit this coming year and in the years to come.
