Car catches fire at East High parking lot
A car caught fire in the East High School parking lot Wednesday morning.
About 8:15 a.m. a 1995 Cadillac Seville burst into flames in a back parking lot.
Firefighters were on the scene until about 9 a.m. and extinguished the flames within 10 minutes, said Roger Hempel, shift commander with the Victoria Fire Department.
No one was hurt in the blaze, said Frank Naranjo, fire investigator.
The driver was dropping off someone at the campus when the car started to smoke, Naranjo said. Hempel added that the car was fully engulfed in flames.
The Victoria Police Department had officers help guide traffic out of the back lot where the car was flaming but did not shut down the school's entrance.
Naranjo said the cause of the fire was mechanical and cautioned drivers to keep their cars tuned up.
"Especially now in the cold it's a good time to keep your cars up because you will have problems with them," he said.
