A likely electrical fire destroyed the home of University of Houston-Victoria associate professor Sandy Venneman on fire Sunday afternoon, fire investigators say.
Cuero firefighters responded to a call at noon and found the wood frame house in the 4000 block of Edgar Leesville Road fully involved with flames, showing at the rear of the structure, said Derek Hook, Cuero Fire Department investigator.
"The cause is probably going to be electrical, but it's still under investigation," Hook said.
Hook characterized the house a total loss.
Cuero responded with two pumper trucks and three tankers, and the Yoakum Fire Department assisted with two tankers.
Venneman was taken to Cuero Community Hospital by Yoakum Emergency Medical Services for treatment of smoke inhalation, Hook said.
Firefighters were on scene for about seven hours.
