GALVESTON - The University of Houston-Victoria softball team split a pair of games on Saturday at the Galveston Island Invitational.

The Jaguars lost their first game 3-2 against Galveston. They rebounded in the second game with a 5-1 win against Blinn College.

Baylea Wagener threw a two-hitter in the 5-1 win.

Some highlights for the day for UHV included home runs by Allison Hinton and Ashley Winegeart. Kellie King added a double and Kristina Droz went 2-for-3.

Emily Bergstrom and Dawn Villegas combined for a 5-hitter in the loss to Galveston.

"I'm pleased with our performance," coach Keri Lambeth said. "We used game 1 to work our nerves and then came alive in game 2."

The Galveston tournament is important, Lambeth said.

"We recruit great kids from Blinn and Galveston. They're great competitors to play these exhibition games against."

The Jaguars play Sunday at 10 a.m. vs. Alvin and at noon vs. San Jacinto.
