Another vacancy is in the near future for the Victoria Mall.
Tracy's Hallmark, which has called the mall home since the shopping center opened in the 1980s, will soon close its doors.
The move is the next in a string of recent closures, which include stores such as Old Navy, Gap, Tuesday Morning and more.
Although store personnel confirmed the close, they declined further comment.
Longtime customer Bernadette Bellanger visited the store Tuesday after learning the news.
"I buy ornaments for my kids each Christmas," the Victoria stay-at-home mom said. "I even remember standing in line outside the old store, waiting for Beanie Babies. It's not good for a city when even the Hallmark closes."
On Tuesday, a large banner announced a clearance sale, while a red sign in the window advertised 40 percent off select items in the store.
Abel Resendez and Madison Dolezal, both freshman at Victoria West High School, said the store's closing will not affect them.
"We just don't shop there," Abel said, an ice cream cone perched in his hand.
Jonathan and Jennifer Anderson visited the mall Tuesday night to allow their young daughter and a family friend a chance to run around and grab some ice cream. The husband-wife duo, who were previously active with the Victoria Chamber of Commerce and other business organizations, said they were sad to see yet another store close.
"You always hear that you should shop local," Jonathan Anderson said. "But what is there to buy?"
Jennifer Anderson said the closures make her wonder whether it is a local issue or whether the down economy is just now reaching the Crossroads.
Whatever the issue, her husband said he hopes a solution comes soon.
"We need to stop the bleeding," he said. "Put a tourniquet on it or something. It's sad for Victoria."
