Residents urged to conserve energy

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas is asking residents to conserve electricity usage between 6 and 9 a.m. Thursday.

ERCOT is purchasing additional generation capacity to help maintain delivery of power during the cold weather, according to a press release from the city.

Rotating outages would be the last step in preventing an uncontrolled blackout across the state, the release said.

During peak demand hours, consumers can turn off and unplug all nonessential appliances, avoid running large appliances, keep the thermostat low and close shades and blinds.
