• I completely agree with susieq. What kind of paper prints a vague, front page article that invites wild speculation about a person's character and actions, and then never follows up or investigates the matter further? Where is the front page article, or any article, about the school board meeting on Monday? Mr. Kowalik and his family were supported by numerous teachers, students and community members who testified to the fine job he has done as principal and to the kind of outstanding person Russell Kowalik is. While Mr. Kowalik's character has never been in question by those who truly know him, the character and ethics of this paper are now highly questionable.

  • You were quick to put Mr. Kowalik's face on your front page with the comment he was suspended pending a further investigation. This left it open for anyone to make up a reason and start rumors as to why he was on paid leave. However, I was sadden to see that you did not follow through with an article showing the great teacher and community support at the Monday, Feb.14, school board meeting. However, if anyone is interested in the truth, perhaps they should get the Hallettsville newspaper from Feb. 15, which actually presents a clearer picture of this young man's character and dedication in helping students do better.

  • I agree with the above comment about it being sad that his reputation is being dragged through the mud, but it is NOT being done by "uniformed citizens." Anyone at the Board meeting last night can verify that. One of the problems, as many of Kowalik's supporters stated during the meeting, is that the citizens are being kept uninformed.

  • The saddest thing about this whole situation is that a man is accused of something and is not given the opportunity to defend himself before he is put on leave and his reputation is dragged through the mud by local curios and uninformed citizens. Mr. Kowalik is a good, hardworking man who does not deserve what is happening to him. Maybe someone should look deeper into what is going on here. I hope this incident does not sour him on the Hallettsville community.
