Hallettsville school district has appointed assistant principal Jason Appelt to assume all leadership responsibilities while high school principal Russell Kowalik is on paid leave.
Kowalik was placed on leave Monday so the district can review administrative concerns brought to its attention, according to a news release issued by Superintendent Jo Ann Bludau on Friday.
Kowalik will remain on leave pending the completion of the district's review.
The release states the district is committed to efficiently and effectively handling the issue with as little disruption to the staff and students as possible.
Calls to University Interscholastic League Compliance Director Ed Stidham on Thursday and Friday were not returned. Calls to school board trustees and school officials were either not returned or questions were directed to Bludau.
In the release, Bludau reiterated she cannot discuss specifics of the suspension.
