The deadline to file for election to the 14th Texas Silver-Haired Legislature for a two-year term is Feb. 28, according to a news release.

The Silver-Haired Legislature, authorized by the Texas Legislature in 1985, identifies the issues and concerns of their peers, propose solutions and prepare a written report prior to each session of the Texas Legislature.

During September, the 13th TSHL met at the state capitol and adopted 73 resolutions to address the needs of older Texans.

Candidates must be 60 years of age or older, registered voters and live in the district they wish to represent.

In the Crossroads, residents of Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Gonzales, Jackson, Lavaca and Victoria counties are in the Golden Crescent region and Refugio County residents are in the Coastal Bend region.

The TSHL is a volunteer organization with no staff, no central office and no state or federal appropriations. Individual members pay their own travel and personal expenses.

Election day is May 24.
