Name: Letrice Montgomery

City of residence: Victoria

Why are you proud to be black?

"I am proud to be black because that's just what I am. I think everyone of every culture and any race should be proud of who they are and where they come from. That is the gift that God gave you. It's not something you had a choice of. To me, it's the gift that God has given you and that's always something to be proud of."

Why is it important to recognize black history?

"It makes people stop and look at where we've come from. Appreciate where we've come from and maybe reassess what we need to do to make things better and accomplish the goal that we've set for ourselves."

Who is your role model and why?

"Dr. King, for me just because of the way that he handled the whole Civil Rights movement and his decision to go about it in a peaceful way rather than violence. During that time, there was so much violence, and it probably would have been the easier path to go the same route to go that he was being exposed to. But he took the high road."
