Victoria school district students who report seeing guns or drugs on campus can now get a cash reward through the new Victoria Crime Stoppers Campus Crime Stoppers Program.

The program is the result of many months of preparation by the Victoria Police Department, Victoria Crime Stoppers and the school district.

The program will anonymously pay a flat fee cash reward to students and faculty who report a tip about a person in possession of a gun on school campuses or buses, as well as for illegal possession of drugs or narcotics.

Tiptsters will be rewarded $500 for any substantiated tip of a gun on campus and $100 for any substantiated tip of illegal drugs or pills on school campuses.

Students calling the tip line will be not asked their name and will remain anonymous. By National Crime Stoppers standards, the tip line is secure and not equipped with caller I.D.

"School safety is paramount, and this agency is a committed partner with VISD, and we will use every available resource at our disposal to catch anyone bringing a gun on school property and provide a cash reward to those who provide us with solid information," said Police Chief Bruce Ure.
