"Why don't we take it back to the times of the bible and punish them in their ways. Get caught "Tagging" red handed and get both hands cut off and they will never tag another building. I know this is a far fetched idea but it used to work a long time ago."
Not so sure of that one...
Life of Brian:
Centurion:
What's this thing? "ROMANES EUNT DOMUS"? "People called Romanes they go the house?"
Brian:
It... it says "Romans go home".
Centurion:
No it doesn't. What's Latin for "Roman"?
Brian hesitates
Centurion:
Come on, come on!
Brian:
(uncertain) "ROMANUS".
Centurion:
Goes like?
Brian:
"-ANUS".
Centurion:
Vocative plural of "-ANUS" is?
Brian:
"-ANI".
Centurion:
(takes paintbrush from Brian and paints over) "RO-MA-NI". "EUNT"? What is "EUNT"?
Brian:
"Go".
Centurion:
Conjugate the verb "to go"!
Brian:
"IRE"; "EO", "IS", "IT", "IMUS", "ITIS", "EUNT".
Centurion:
So "EUNT" is ...?
Brian:
Third person plural present indicative, "they go".
Centurion:
But "Romans, go home!" is an order, so you must use the ...?
He lifts Brian by his short hairs
Brian:
The ... imperative.
Centurion:
Which is?
Brian:
Um, oh, oh, "I", "I"!
Centurion:
How many Romans? (pulls harder)
Brian:
Plural, plural! "ITE".
Centurion strikes over "EUNT" and paints "ITE" on the wall
Centurion:
"I-TE". "DOMUS"? Nominative? "Go home", this is motion towards, isn't it, boy?
Brian:
(very anxious) Dative?
Centurion draws his sword and holds it to Brian's throat
Brian:
Ahh! No, ablative, ablative, sir. No, the, accusative, accusative, ah, DOMUM, sir.
Centurion:
Except that "DOMUS" takes the ...?
Brian:
... the locative, sir!
Centurion:
Which is?
Brian:
"DOMUM".
Centurion:
(satisfied) "DOMUM"...
He strikes out "DOMUS" and writes "DOMUM"
Centurian:
February 28, 2011 at 9:28 a.m...."-MUM". Understand?
Brian:
Yes sir.
Centurion:
Now write it down a hundred times.
Brian:
Yes sir, thank you sir, hail Caesar, sir.
Centurion:
(saluting) Hail Caesar. If it's not done by sunrise, I'll cut your balls off.
Brian:
(very relieved) Oh thank you sir, thank you sir, hail Caesar and everything, sir!
N3225J - You call that art and think they have talent? If that is the case, I have a 2 year old that has composed a few drawings that you might be interested in. For a price though...
February 28, 2011 at 8:55 a.m.Word is that this was not from the students...yes, we hope they are found out and they pay the price. ANYONE can be a victim-ANY property.
February 26, 2011 at 10:11 a.m.Why don't we take it back to the times of the bible and punish them in their ways. Get caught "Tagging" red handed and get both hands cut off and they will never tag another building. I know this is a far fetched idea but it used to work a long time ago. How else are we going to inflict the punishment needed to stop the action of tagging. At least they won't have any jail time to do! What we are doing now is just flat not working. Just look around Victoria.
February 26, 2011 at 5:52 a.m.Well, I have read all the comments and have become aware that we appear to be as good or bad as those that have displayed their artwork. Who to blame and who and how to punish. And oh my come the solutions...... Where were all of you well wishers when everyone else in town was getting blessed with this form of art. Someone woke up and said, "Look what they did to me".
I know little about art. Not sure I know a lot about talent. My opinion is that these that displayed unwanted material on the walls of the school have a great talent but a poor choice of where and how to display it.
February 25, 2011 at 7:47 p.m.Champipple is what Fred drank, flat champagne mixed with Ripple.
Raspberry Ripple is cockney slang and has nothing to do with a drink.
February 25, 2011 at 4:28 p.m.Graffiti Facts : Costs of Graffiti
What Does Graffiti Cost Us?
Graffiti vandalism comes with a terrible price. Experts from the NoGraf Network performed a study on the cost of graffiti. In 1990, the National Graffiti Information Network survey estimated annual graffiti costs in the U.S. at $8 Billion. By the late 1990's, it was $15 Billion per year.
At the June 2008 NoGraf Network Conference of experts from the U.S. and around the world, the annual costs of graffiti was now estimated to be $25 Billion in the US.
Keep in mind that this cost does not include costs incurred by private property or business owners and it does not include any amount due to loss of business or decreased property value in graffiti prone areas.
"We spend approximately $80,000 per year on real estate signs. This includes the making of our signs, installation, removal and sign repair. Of this figure, approximately $8,000 represents the expense caused by graffiti, both in removal of the graffiti and the repurchase of damaged signs caused by graffiti. We are only one real estate company, but our experience with graffiti is a representation of the economic impact of this act of vandalism has on our industry."
That's one agency in one town. Think how much that $8,000 would be when multiplied by the number of Realtors nationwide. And it goes deeper than that.
Perhaps an even stronger impact comes in the areas hardest to quantify. Decreased perception of safety, lower community pride, at risk youth, these are all effects of vandalism in a community. So well documented is the change to perception in safety when a neighborhood is covered in graffiti that no matter the setting from film to press conferences graffiti is shown in the background if a message of urban decay is desired.
Intimidates residents - The far majority of the population has little understanding of graffiti culture and often time assumes that the vandalism in their neighborhood is the work of gangs. Their feeling of safety and security is diminished because of the fear of violent criminals. Sadly, assaults by vandals against property owners and other residents during a confrontation are becoming more common each year.
Scares Away Customers - Graffiti gives the impression that an area is economically depressed. People may believe a property or business owner does not care about the image the business is presenting. Customers may believe that if the property owner does not care about the outside of his store then they may not care about quality or good customer service. And the perception of decreased safety can make customers feel uneasy about being in an area that has graffiti

February 25, 2011 at 11:44 a.m.Yup, I missed the sarcasm. Got it now...thanks...I got a chuckke out of it. For a second, I thought you were serious!
sage1 - I am thinking you missed my sarcasm bus WAY down the road. "art" far from it. Personally, I think it looks like the tagger/taggers may fall somewhere in the range of an uneducated dyslexic that has turrets syndrome...
February 25, 2011 at 8:26 a.m.First, this isn't the work of one person ... it took several. Look at the picture.
Second, don't confront taggers by yourself. Call the cops. Tags are a gateway to gang violence and drugs.
Third, tagging is not one bad choice. It is the choice in the middle of a whole lot of bad choices supported by terrrible/absent parents and the lack of a more compelling/realistic alternative.
February 24, 2011 at 10:30 p.m.It is not " about some paint on the wall" It is about defacing private property, Defaced private property my hard earned tax dollars had to pay for. It is called vandalism and not "art". To you it might be the "norm' in Victoria, but it is not the "norm" to us law abiding citizens...
February 24, 2011 at 10:28 p.m.Told ya. Look west.
February 24, 2011 at 9:25 p.m.I think the rat should have to remove this blemish with a toothbrush.
February 24, 2011 at 8:30 p.m.Hicktoria - It's not "art" as you called it. They are blatant gang signs. Some little gangbanger, who probably rarely shows up for school and rarely does anything while he (or she) is there has ironically decided to mark the school as his territory - the amusing part is it is not his territory - not one student wants that kid there and if they find him, he will be severely out numbered. That's why the kid had to use the cover of darkness; he can't come out and say it's his area, because he knows it's not. He just wants to intimidate people; unfortunately for him, it is having the opposite effect and he's out-numbered 1900-to-1.
February 24, 2011 at 8:09 p.m.I was happy about students' responses to the graffiti - they are equally as upset as the adults. It was really nice to know that they appreciate VEHS and the building itself enough to be angry. Comments ranged from remarking at how stupid the vandal is; some were calling him or her weak and a coward (they used another word); another student thought the culprit should "get the chair" (I'm sure metaphorically). The best reactions though were from students who made comments like, "They [the community] gave us something nice and look what he did to it." One student complained that "it makes us look like we're ghetto." His words, not mine. Some kids made a point of saying that it's a small town, and eventually, the kids will find out who did it. There was a tone in their voices that suggested they want to issue their own punishment for the vandal.
Even though it's unsightly, it was kind of cool seeing the kids and the adults on the same page and knowing that we all have school pride - well, all of us except for one.
February 24, 2011 at 8:03 p.m.Legion, you are my favorite sadist.
February 24, 2011 at 6:27 p.m.Or, we could call them Raspberry Ripple.
February 24, 2011 at 6:18 p.m.A good place for those Mephitic Sh*theel s, eh Kyle?
February 24, 2011 at 6:15 p.m.Please put all school bullies in Gitmo asap.
February 24, 2011 at 5:40 p.m.Dang I wish there was a "like" button because I agree with several of yall! I think these criminals should be punished and if they are underage they should be punished plus their parents! TxHunter...I am surprised too that mamaj is not blaming the St. Joe kids!
February 24, 2011 at 5:18 p.m.Since my property tax money helped fund the building of the school, I think I should be able to help choose the punishment for these low lifes.
February 24, 2011 at 5:04 p.m.mamaj
February 24, 2011 at 4:59 p.m.You're still with the bad choices. What was it you said oh yes "come on now". That pissed me off. If these criminals were raise to respect anothers property......
And Josua, Don't that beat all, A little paint on the wall. You're probably or obviously not a property tax payer.
by looking at the photo--is this the entrance to the school? i am asking because wouldnt it be wise to put a camera or cameras for future incedents to catch those doing the tagging. wouldnt it be a great idea to include those type of incidents in the reward program just recently announced--fine the parents as soon as the person or persons are caught and have them clean off the walls------
February 24, 2011 at 4:36 p.m.i was not by anyway condoning this at all, and i dont agree with vandalism and yes they should be punished, dont take my words out of context. and yes they are bad choices.
February 24, 2011 at 3:57 p.m.Of course this is gang activity. This type of vandalism is the lowest form of gang activity. I think gang members no matter what the age should be classified as terrorists. I also think the punishment should be hard even for tagging. But with a whole race of people supporting gangs because many enter through Mexico and by allowing them to recruit local thugs, I don't see much happening to improve things. When they are caught, the race card is always played. Victoria will eventually be just like the border cities. You will risk your life each time you leave your home and you will risk your life when you stay at home to home invasion.
February 24, 2011 at 3:49 p.m.some people in this town need to do a better job of controlling their animals.
if any of them are over 16, i hope they get some jail time.
February 24, 2011 at 3:43 p.m.BigBlueJoe - I don't believe that this is typical behavior for Victoria. The person(s) who committed this crime will be outed and I expect the DA to press the maximum charges. I know for a fact that the students at East High School are devastated.
February 24, 2011 at 3:41 p.m.I don't think prison is the answer! Fine both the Parents and the children who did this and make both of them clean up this mess! If the PARENTS were paying more attention to their kids, then perhaps they would be occupied with positive things to do! I mean the parent is fined if your kids are truent, why not be fined for all the unlawful things your kids do?
February 24, 2011 at 3:39 p.m.C'mon, are we surprised? It's Victoria, Texas. This is the norm.
February 24, 2011 at 3:21 p.m.They're just like babies you can't give them colors because they'll write all over the walls.
February 24, 2011 at 3 p.m.Some how I think the people who wrote on this wall are also the people who are doing much worst or will be before long.
February 24, 2011 at 2:51 p.m.Kids will be kids. Y'all are worried about some paint on the wall when others are doing way worse..
February 24, 2011 at 2:45 p.m.I remember when my brothers were young they decided to write what my Mother considered a "BAD WORD" in the dust on the back window of her car. This was the same car she had to drive to work every day and she was very upset that not only did they write the "BAD WORD" but that other people might have seen her driving with it written on her window.
February 24, 2011 at 2:44 p.m.Both boys blamed the other for it being "his idea" so my Mother promptly lined them both up on the front lawn and gave them both a "Whooping" with the paddle for the whole neighborhood to see.
Not a soul dared to question my Mother about why she spanked and embarrassed them in front of everyone.
Some would say that this should have scarred them for life. They are both in thier 40's now hard working family men and still remember that day as the day they learned not to mess with other peoples property.
I still have that old paddle laying around somewhere collecting dust. Any Mamas out there need to put it to use?
Some kids just don't care about anything and it really doesn't matter if it had a meaning or not if you want to draw than that's what paper is for and art class. I hope they find who did it and I'm sure they will because they'll be bragging about soon.
February 24, 2011 at 2:32 p.m.Maybe mamaj should be questioned in her connection with this. Seems to know alot about it. Catch these punks in action and 'tag' one of them up against that wall, and that will send a message with a meaning!
February 24, 2011 at 1:45 p.m.How come they are not called Vandals - committing vandalism? Do we sugar coat everything now?
February 24, 2011 at 1:32 p.m.mamaj - "what they tag is intentional and they are sending a message. everything has a meaning."
Why not invite them to tag your home instead of the school then?
February 24, 2011 at 1:32 p.m.EVERYTHING HAS A MEANING????? and I guess what the meaning is by doing this is that they don't give a rat's a_ _ about our schools, and I say our school's because if you pay taxes, you paid for these schools.....I think I'm going to make a contribution to Campus Crime Stoppers and ask them to earmark it specifically for information to solve this crime, watch your backs taggers, your best friend will turn you in if they need the cash bad enough......
February 24, 2011 at 12:22 p.m.Is that what you call it MamaJ? A bad choice? Wah Wah, time out for them. No, Hick is right, they are stupid, and should be punished and hard.
VA, please do not call them taggers, they are criminals. Period.
February 24, 2011 at 12:14 p.m.yall are funny, how hick of you to say that hicktoria, just becuase these kids are tagging doesnt mean they are stupid, just make bad choices, and what they tag is intentional and they are sending a message. everything has a meaning. come on now.
February 24, 2011 at 11:52 a.m.Are there any surveillance cameras around the school?
February 24, 2011 at 10:59 a.m.They would do it anyway localgirl. Besides I doubt any of them can read anyway. Just look at what the "art" looks like....
February 24, 2011 at 10:53 a.m.Great, now that this picture made the paper, we will have more "artists" tagging to see their work in print.
February 24, 2011 at 10:47 a.m.
