I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Our "Boots for Bucks" contest came to an end and the winners were announced at our first Holiday Market Day at the Victoria Art League. Diana Garcia from the Louise school district won first place in the youth division, and Adriana Valdivia won first in the adult. Both won $100 for their efforts. There were so many creative, interesting, and fun designs. Many of these were donated to be auctioned later at a date to be announced.

Our first Holiday Market Day was a success with about 25 booths participating. This was our initial effort and due to the positive comments, we plan to have another bigger and better one next year. Thanks to all of you who came and supported both of these events.

Patti Rutker, an accomplished artist from Lockhart, will present a program on Acrylic painting at our next meeting of the Victoria Art League, at 2 p.m. Jan. 9. The public is invited to see and hear Patty's wonderful demonstration.

She will offer an acrylic workshop Jan. 10-13. Come join us for our meeting and if interested in the workshop, call the Art League from 1-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.

Pottery classes will start in January. I will teach them. Beginners classes will be offered on Mondays for six weeks from 1-4 p.m. or 6-9 p.m. starting the Jan. 10. Advanced classes for those with pottery experience will be held on Thursdays for six weeks at the same times starting the Jan. 13. The advanced class will conclude with a Raku pottery firing. Call 361-575-3216 for more information.

Sonny Timme will continue his classes and Jim Feig will offer photography classes starting Feb. 3.

Classes we would like to offer, if the interest is there, are children's classes, stained glass, jewelry, and origami. Call the art league if you or someone you know might be interested. We already have people to teach these if there is enough interest.

We at the Art League are looking forward to a new and exciting year and hope that each of you will stay tuned to what we have planned and join us every time you can. May you all have a very blessed 2011.

Bill Bauer is president of the Victoria Art League.
