Edna man flown to hospital after fireworks accident

An Edna man was taken by helicopter to a hospital after being injured in a firework-related accident at 10 p.m. Friday.

A mortar shell blew up after the man loaded it backwards, according to a paramedic in Edna.

The man suffered a severe hand injury and was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

The paramedic declined to provide more information.
