A number of Invista employees will soon move to offices at the Victoria Tower building as a way to clear out on-site office space.
The company leased two floors of the Laurent Street building as the next step in a $250 million capital investment project, said Amy Hodges, the company's regional director of public affairs.
Hodges made the announcement Tuesday morning at the Victoria Economic Development Corp.'s Victoria Partnership meeting.
Through the next few months, Invista will vacate some buildings, refurbish others and eventually construct permanent offices, Hodges said, explaining that the projects would result in a shortage of on-site office space.
About 45 employees will take part in the first phase of the move, slated to begin by the end of February, she said. In total, between 60 and 70 employees will eventually move to the site.
It took a while to iron out the details, but management at Victoria Tower is excited about the new tenant, said Bill Wendlandt, who owns the building.
"Invista is obviously a first-class company," he said. "It's world-renowned, and they're bringing a professional group of employees into the building."
Hodges said it's good to see the capital investment project move forward.
"These are exciting times for Invista," she said.
